Did you know palm trees can have fungal diseases?
These large discs on the trunk are "Ganoderma zonatum" and are actually mushrooms (conks)
Symptoms:
Wilting and Decline: General yellowing, wilting, or drooping of older, lower fronds while the canopy slowly declines

There are no chemical treatments, fungicides, or fertilizers that can cure an infected palm tree.

This is a black cherry tree. The large black spots along the trunk are called "burls" and there are 2 pictured here on the same trunk.

"The cause of most burls cannot be explained. They may develop as a result of insects, bacteria, fungi, mistletoes, or environmental injury, such as freeze damage."

Burls rarely kill or harm the host tree, as the vascular system continues to transport water and nutrients past the growth.

Newly planted trees should have 3 tie downs in a triangle pattern, or two stakes opposite of each other.
Just because someone can do something, doesn't mean they should be doing it.

Sometimes my tree estimate appointments get turned into teaching moments or even learning moments for myself!

Sometimes a tree can have a green canopy, but have many problems with it. This black cherry has a lot of trunk damage and the top of the tree is declining.
It's important to have trees inspected about once a year because these problems aren't always so easily visible.

Sometimes people aren't aware their tree is dead until it causes a problem.
At this construction site, they put up 2 fences and about 2 weeks later a large limb (pictured bottom right) fell on one of them.

A slow stroll around the yard, every few months, can keep you on top of your tree maintenance!

You don't always have to get your stump removed/ground. This is an interesting way to incorporate them into your landscape! I've never seen one this busy
