Not all interior paint is created equal — and using the wrong type in the wrong room can lead to peeling, staining, and a finish that just doesn't hold up. 🏡
Here's what we've learned after years of painting interiors across Holmen and the surrounding area:
**High-traffic areas need tougher finishes.**
Hallways, kitchens, and kids' rooms take a beating. We typically recommend a satin or semi-gloss finish in these spaces — they're easier to wipe clean and stand up to daily wear far better than flat paint.
**Bathrooms and laundry rooms need moisture-resistant paint.**
Humidity is the enemy of a good paint job. Using a standard paint in these spaces is a recipe for mold and bubbling. A bathroom-specific or mold-resistant formula makes a real difference in how long that finish lasts.
**Flat or matte paint has its place — and it's usually the living room or bedroom.**
These lower-traffic spaces are where flat paint shines. It hides imperfections on walls beautifully and gives you that clean, smooth look without any glare.
**Primer matters more than most people think.**
Skipping primer — especially on new drywall or over dark colors — almost always means more coats, more time, and a finish that doesn't look quite right. We never skip it.
**Sheen affects how a room feels.**
Higher sheen reflects more light and can make a small room feel bigger or a dark corner brighter. It's one of those details that makes a professionally painted room feel noticeably different from a DIY job. 🎨
Getting the paint selection right before a single brush hits the wall is honestly one of the most important parts of the job. It's something we think through carefully on every project.
