👋 MEET THE OWNERS — JEFF & MELISSA SHATTUCK
We figured it was probably time to introduce ourselves and share a little bit about how Custom Decks by Shatmire came to be — because this definitely wasn’t an overnight thing!
Jeff built his first deck in 1992 and has been building professionally since 2000. So you could say he’s been doing this for a while. 😆
Melissa’s path was a little different…
She was actually a nurse with a nice, cushy job when, in 2012, she started spending her days off building decks alongside Jeff.
Apparently relaxing on your days off is overrated. 😂
What started as working together on the side turned into something much bigger, and in 2014 we officially started our business together.
Eventually, Melissa traded in the scrubs for work boots full-time — and never looked back.
Fast-forward to today, and we’re still husband and wife, business partners, and somehow still willing to spend nearly every waking hour together. 🤣
And when we say owner-operated, we really mean it.
Jeff is the methodical one. With decades of building experience, he handles the structural side of our projects and is the guy making sure everything is built right, down to the smallest detail.
Melissa handles designs, permits, material ordering and plenty of the behind-the-scenes chaos — but she definitely isn’t sitting in an office all day. You’ll find her running the mini excavator, installing helical piles, framing, laying decking, installing railings and lighting, and working right alongside Jeff on the jobsite.
When you hire us, you actually get us.
We design your project, pull the permits, order the materials, install our own helical piles and personally build your project from the ground up.
We’re not trying to be the biggest deck company in New Hampshire. We like being a small, hands-on company where we know our customers, know every detail of our projects, and can personally stand behind the work that has our name on it.
More than three decades after Jeff built that first deck — and more than a decade after we decided working together was somehow a good idea 😂 — we’re pretty proud of what we’ve built.
