Have you ever seen wooly bear caterpillar babies?! This was our first time and we’re obsessed!

We got a frost last weekend that froze the blooms and leaves. However it didn’t kill the plants and the buds that were on the plant over the weekend are now beautiful flowers! Hooray!

I am starting to chop some plants to begin the long process while the weather is simply amazing. ☀️

These dahlias were cut yesterday and kept toasty warm in the house. They are out on the farm stand now. When they’re done we won’t see dahlias until August! 😭

Frostmas (the first killing frost) arrived this morning. I wanted to prolong the season by a week or two by covering a section of our field in plastic but it was incredibly windy last night and just wasn’t possible. My husband and I checked the field at 6am and most of the flowers and leaves were already frozen. 🥶😭

It’s heart-wrenching to be immersed in dahlia beauty for 3 months and then suddenly they’re gone. I’ve done my best to soak in all the beauty, cut lots of blooms, and express gratitude for this wonderful dahlia season this past week.

Just like I love a change in seasons I look forward to what’s next. Digging, dividing, and storing 500 dahlia plants is going to be a ton of work but I love every step of the dahlia life cycle.

📣Dahlia bouquets are buy one get one free!

I’m harvesting the dahlias like crazy with the predicted 🥶 frost 🥶 coming so there is an abundance of flowers on the stand. I would love for people to keep one bouquet for themselves and give the free one away to brighten someone’s day. 😊

Dahlias are protected from the rain on the farm stand.

Self serve farm stand open daily, dawn till dusk.

Are you already grieving the end of dahlia season? Here is a new phone background for you 😉

It’s a little snapshot of most of the varieties that I grew this year. It was a joy to make and I’m already looking forward to making one again next season!
