You just never know. There are themes for clutter accumulation, of course. Scarcity mindset, no time to decide what should stay, past tragedy creating too many “what if” scenarios, death in the family meant a sudden influx of stuff, desire to leave your treasures to future generations, but you can’t know by taking one look around.

This is the difference when it comes to working with a professional vs having a friend hold open the trash bag for you. It’s also the difference between a traditional organizer and a decluttering specialist.

I love all my clients and take their clutter very seriously, but I want to know your WHY. We are we doing this now? What has changed? How long have you been living this way? What does your stuff mean to you?

I am the Lady Liberty of clutter. Give me your old magazines, dusty collections, and clothing you’ve never worn. Your gear from abandoned hobbies and changed careers, expired food, and buried carpets yearning to breathe free.

I want to know how we got here so we don’t go back.

So if you’re not interested in using empathy and understanding, keep your thoughts to yourself when visiting friends and family this holiday season. If they could handle their clutter, they would. If the work was just “getting organized,” they’d be done by now.

If they bring it up first, let them know there are professionals ready to help, no matter the scope or reasons for the current state of their home. 💚

On the blog right now: Is hiring a professional organizer worth the cost? Learn what you’re paying for, how organizing differs from cleaning, and when professional help makes sense.

We aren’t all identical, but I’ve laid out the key differences between professional organizers, helping hands, and household cleaners, because people are often looking for someone in the middle.

We do light cleaning, meaning if we find a mess while decluttering, we’ll help set it right so your stuff doesn’t get ruined when it’s put back. But cleaning is not organizing, and organizing is not decluttering.

You are stepping into a different process with a decluttering specialist and professional organizer rather than garage clean out crews or home cleaners. Find out when you need to hire a professional, when you can do it alone, or if the professional you need is *not* an organizer.

If you can’t seem to keep the house clutter-free, you’re probably getting in your own way. Some things seem like a great idea, a good deal, or practical for your lifestyle at first. There’s no shame in admitting it doesn’t work for you.

In every pantry lies a corner for subscription supplements, drink additives, healthy snacks, magic potions, tinctures, and promises. When we forget to use the supplies, they still arrive on schedule and get added to the pile.

Proximity to healthy products doesn’t make us healthy. Paying for stuff we don’t use makes us financially unhealthy and takes up valuable real estate.

And let’s not forget the subscriptions for make up samples, skincare, and household items. If you don’t pick it yourself, it’s probably not ideal for your lifestyle, and it’ll end up in a drawer or cabinet until you run out of room. AND the clothing subscriptions and rentals “that you will return” but they get swallowed up by your house and now you own it all.

I’ve seen remnants of all these things, so you’re not alone. But if you want to stop clutter, don’t give it a monthly invite.

It took a lot of restraint not to tag the company whose products I see more than any other…message me to find out what it is!

Thank you to all my wonderful clients for putting in so many hours with me organizing and decluttering!

Not all the work I do is counted toward my KonMari mastery, so this means a lot, but also doesn’t even represent *all* the work I’ve done for Houston area families in the last year!

When you’re ready to make your home work for you, clear out the stuff that makes it hard to get out the door on time, and create a space that’s easy to maintain, send me a message 💚

Did you grow up never having enough? Did your parents?
Were you raised in a militantly clean home?
Or the home with piles in every corner?
Do you need to feel prepared for every possibility?
Do you love to be the one everyone counts on to have what they need?
Do you think your body will change suddenly and you’ll need different sized clothing?
Do your belongings represent unrealized ambitions? Failures? Dark chapters?
Do you find there’s no time to get things in order?

No two clients are exactly the same. Sure, we’ll pull things out, sort, and organize. But there can’t possibly be one little “mind trick” that works across the board.

Give yourself grace. You just haven’t found your WHY yet.

This is why I fill my car with donations after every session - one less thing on your to-do list and the clutter leaves the day you decide it needs to go.

I donate it on your behalf, and you enjoy your freshly decluttered space immediately 💚

It’s your closet. Your pantry. Your garage. I am not here to tell you what should stay and what should go.

Often people get stuck on the If, When, Maybe, In Case thoughts, and that’s where I can gently guide you to your final decision. But I’m not coming over to judge what you keep.

Some of you would hate what’s in my closet. Who am I to tell you what colors to wear, and how many pairs of leggings is enough? Decluttering is about realism. I don’t know how often you wear that tube top, but if you seem unsure, my impartial questions can draw out the truth, whether it’s “I need it” or “goodbye with love.”

If you’re powering through decisions with ease, I’m standing by looking for signs of panic, regret, people-pleasing, and future rebounds. What good does it do you to hire a pro to help you declutter if you end up with nothing to wear and a month of shopping hauls right after?

I’m not judging, but I am monitoring your expression, word choice, and mood.

The choice is yours. I’ll help you get there with confidence.

A lot of what we edit is not in good enough shape to be donated. It’s heartbreaking to think of our stuff ending up in the trash of course, but large donation centers get SO MUCH they end up trashing. Open products, clothes with stains or damage, incomplete sets, and so on.

It can help to imagine your stuff making someone else happy.

If we know it’s going in the trash, keep in mind it wasn’t making YOU happy. That’s why you’re letting it go. The act of curating is a gift to YOU that will make YOU happy when you have less to maintain and clean at home.

Decluttering benefits you, organizing benefits you, and if you uncover things you can donate to a worthy organization, Decluttering also benefits your community.

There is no shame in owning things that bring you happiness.
It’s a shame when we neglect those things instead of caring for them.
Everything in your home used to be money. Treat your stuff with the respect it deserves.

Declutter what’s getting in the way. Organize what’s left so everything has a home. When you’re not using it, put it to bed so it’s ready for next time.

If your stuff has earned a place in your home, take care of it. Otherwise your careful investment is just future trash.

How do you keep a home clutter free?

Don’t treat it like the dump.

If it’s in your home taking up space but you don’t use it or love it, it doesn’t belong. Your forgotten goods can bring someone else joy when you donate them. Your home will feel lighter if you take out the trash.

Keep a bin handy, and when it’s full, donate the contents.

A clutter-free home is the result of tiny everyday decisions, not one mad dash to purge.
