Hoquiam voters: check the back of your ballot. Timberland Regional Library Proposition 1 isn’t on it.

Hoquiam joined the Timberland library district in 2011, and Hoquiam property owners pay the library levy. Ballots across five counties include the measure. The ballots our County Auditor’s office mailed to Hoquiam don’t, even though the back is half empty.

Every other Timberland voter gets a say on this levy. Hoquiam should too.

Email [email protected] and ask how they will fix it. You can read about the measure at https://trl.org/levy

Grays Harbor Democrats have endorsed APPROVE on this measure.

On a relatively quiet afternoon. First trip into the woodland garden since coming down with Covid a week and a half ago.

We love this mural. If you do, too, sign the petition. https://stillinthepicture.org/?

“If you wish to make anything grow, you must understand it, and understand it in a very real sense. ‘Green fingers’ are a fact and a mystery only to the unpracticed. But green fingers are the extensions of a verdant heart.”

Oregon has another tree-killing invasive pest to worry about. Native to Asia and Russia, velvet longhorned beetle (Trichoferus campestris) was first sighted in Oregon in Umatilla County in 2019. The Oregon Dept. of Agriculture confirmed the pest was in Multnomah County in 2022.

A wood-boring beetle, it can infest apple, cherry, peach, mulberry, and a number of other deciduous and conifer tree species. It can also burrow into green and dry wood, such as timber and lumber. VLB can greatly reduce fruit production and wood value, and even shorten the lifespan of infested trees.

VLB is spread in firewood and wood products, such as furniture. One way to slow the spread is to not move untreated firewood more than about 10 miles from where it is cut.

A walk through our woods with our garden soundscape. Sound on for the full ambience. Does it sound like the voice is electronically amplified? We wonder.
