This decoy sat on a mantle for 20 years. Today, it hunted.

I carved this decoy back in 2006 and gave it to my grandparents as a gift. I inherited it back last year when my Grandpa Steele passed away. Crazy being about to talk about my carving career in DECADES.

Thank you for the hunt this morning Grandma and Grandpa Steele. They were not hunters or outdoorsman, but they were proud of everything we did and loved hearing about our hunts. What I would give to tell them about this one.

Fresh wild duck/goose hearts and Hen of the Woods Mushroom with Creamed Spinach.

This is a major reason why I hunt. To be able to share meals like this with and feed my family. Tonight's dinner was an incredible mix of fall harvest... The hearts of Wood ducks, green winged teal, mallards and geese shot this morning and a freshly picked Hen of the woods mushroom.

1) Pull apart and soak mushrooms to flush out bugs.

2) Trim fat, arteries and fillet open the hearts. Quarter goose hearts.

3) Season simply. I used Cavanders All Purpose Greek Seasoning.

4) Sautee hearts first in a small amount of butter. To a medium rare.

5) Add mushrooms last. Sautee only for a couple of minutes.

6) Serve with Creamed Spinach and your favorite pasta
