I had a really interesting mixer this meek and I thought I would share.
What started out as a routine maintenance turned into quite a bit more.
I opened her up and instantly noticed that the plastic gearbox housing was cracked on the right side.
There is a shaft connected to the planetary that sticks through the gearbox. After removing the housing, I noticed that the shaft was bent slightly. There are the two gears and a pin and snap ring that hold those gears in place. That pin is supposed slide out easily. This one, however, is stuck and cracked. To the point of needing drilled out.
If I were to place the housing back on the shaft(without screwing it down) and rotate the motor, the housing would lift on the right side. Right on that cracked corner.
From what I can tell, the shaft was bent in manufacturing during the insertion of that pin. It was forced in, bent the shaft, and then when the housing was screwed down, it cracked the housing.
I’m just shocked that my customer never knew that anything was wrong. I’m so glad I caught it though. Waiting on parts to repair her and then she’ll be on her way home. ❤
