We still have openings for a couple of Girl Scout Badge Workshops on October 17th from 10am-12pm, hosted in our Beanstalk Children's Garden - Trees Badge and Bugs Badge.

Descriptions are below and registration link is in the comments.

Each Session = $18.00/Girl Scout and includes Badge
Adults Are Free

Trees Badge: Cadettes - Explore. Discover. Create. Grow!

Earn your Trees badge alongside a member of the KCCG orchard team! Tour the Beanstalk Garden and discover the amazing ways trees shape our world—from cleaning our air and water to providing shade, supporting wildlife and helping people feel healthier and happier.

Learn to identify them by their leaves and bark, discover what they need to thrive, and explore the many ways people and trees depend on one another. Then let your imagination grow as you design a treehouse using natural materials or create your dream tree garden.

Along the way, girls build the confidence and skills to become thoughtful stewards of trees and the natural world—understanding that caring for the plants around us helps create healthier, more resilient communities for everyone.

Bugs Badge: Brownie - Observe. Explore. Buzz. Transform!

Earn your Bugs badge while exploring the Beanstalk Garden! Use field guides and magnifying lenses to identify the parts of a bug like a scientist, then put your new vocabulary to the test with an insect I-Spy game.

Become a bug detective in our pollinator garden, where native plants like milkweed, aromatic asters, and mountain mint provide food and shelter for insects. Search the garden for clues—spider webs, holes in leaves, cocoons and other signs of insect activity. Play “friend or pest,” learn how to be a friend to pollinators, and create your own bee name before buzzing around and connecting with fellow Scout bees. Then, move your way through a metamorphosis obstacle course and transform from an egg into a beautiful butterfly!

Along the way, girls build the confidence and skills to become curious observers and thoughtful stewards of the tiny creatures that help our gardens and communities thrive.

We are thankful to Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation for their generous grant of $5000, which will go toward supporting our Beanstalk Children's Garden!

With this grant, we’re able to inspire kids to get excited about gardening and the healthy foods that come out of the garden through educational tours in the Beanstalk!

Together, let’s plant the seeds of a healthier future for our kids and community. 🌱

KCCG is looking for a Tiller Contractor!

We are currently looking for contractors to till members’ backyard gardens so that they can grow their own food or food for others. Contractors need to own their own equipment whether that is a tiller, a BCS, or a tractor tiller. Contracted jobs will start in the spring of 2027. Contractors will be compensated in an amount depending on the size of the plot.

If you are interested in helping people garden, please fill out the form in the comments and we will contact you for an interview.

Saturday night, more than 400 of you gathered in the Beanstalk Garden to support the work of Kansas City Community Gardens, and the vision that by empowering people to grow their own food, we can put healthy food in reach of more people in more neighborhoods across our city.

With your help, we've come incredibly close to reaching an exciting new fundraising milestone this year. But before we announce the night's grand total, we have one more request.

Our Fund-a-Need project this year will provide the equipment and supplies that KCCG needs to double its greenhouse production, enabling us to serve the growing number of people who are coming to us, ready to start growing.

Why it Matters: In the last 15 years, the number of home gardening households that rely on KCCG has quadrupled. The number of community sites we supply with seeds, plants, and assistance has grown eight-fold.

Why Now: Our greenhouse space is maxed out, but in 2027, we have opportunities to utilize additional greenhouse space that could double our current capacity. We need your help to equip the space with the supplies that bring these spaces to life.

The Ask: We're just $15,000 away from our goal! Your gift today helps us fully equip our greenhouses for the 2027 growing season. What will you help grow?
