Part 3 Saving Seeds🌸

It’s so easy to dry your zinnia blooms and save the seeds for next spring. Let me know if you try it.

Part 2 of Garden Beds Clean-up: No Till Layering of Compost. We call it our garden lasagna made fresh with goat and chicken manure bedding.

It’s our final week of zinnia blooms! 🌸We are grateful for a season of flowers for weddings, showers and lots of fun bouquets for our friends and family.

Unpopular opinion...We don’t disturb the soil or roots and leave the plant base to decompose & add nutrients. Every bed we have, especially veggie beds, are a garden lasagna with layers of compost and goodness! We don’t use additional fertilizers or pesticides.

Stay tuned for Part 3 saving seeds for spring🌸

Enjoy your week, friend

Steak Stew in a Pumpkin!

We still have hot summer temps here in Kansas City, but the requests for this cozy fall meal have been plenty! This recipe from our Grace-Filled Homestead Cookbook is one of the family favorites! I know your gang will love it too.

Ingredients
2 lb. beef stew meat, cut into 1-inch cubes
3 T. canola oil, divided
1 1/2 cups beef broth
1 lb. cubed potatoes  Hack: 1lb. bag of frozen cubed hash browns
2 cups of baby carrots
1 1/2 chopped onion
4 tsp. garlic minced
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 beef bouillon cube dissolved in a tablespoon of water
1 can (14-1/2 oz.) diced tomatoes, undrained
1 pumpkin (approx. 10 pounds)

Directions
Brown meat in 2 tablespoons oil. In large pot add browned meat, broth, carrots, garlic, chopped onion, bouillon, tomatoes, salt, and pepper. Stir, cover, and simmer for 1 hour. Stir in potatoes and let simmer 1 more hour. Wash pumpkin; cut 6 to 8 in. circle around top stem. Remove top and set aside; discard seeds and loosen fibers from inside. We save our seeds for roasting the following day. Place pumpkin in a shallow sturdy baking pan. Spoon stew into pumpkin and replace the top. Brush outside of pumpkin with oil. Bake at 325° for 2 hours or just until the pumpkin is tender. Serve stew from pumpkin, scooping out a little pumpkin with each serving.
Yield: 8 Servings

Let me know if you make it!
Blessings!

We have a gift for you!!💛✨

Reading the Bible can feel overwhelming, but this downloadable 12-week New Testament plan makes it simple and doable: just 15 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

Scripture is more than encouragement for a tough day, it’s living and active, full of wisdom, truth, and answers to life’s biggest questions. In its pages you’ll find strength when you’re weary, direction when you’re searching, and stories straight from the life and lips of Jesus Himself.

Comment “Word” and I’ll send you the link, or you can find it in my bio. I hope you’ll join us!!

Come with us as we trace the footsteps of Jesus, from the dirt roads of Bethlehem to the stone streets of Jerusalem.

Blessings to you friend,
Lana xo

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” John 15:13

When CJ first got on KCFD and the kiddos were small, we always stopped by the Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial park any time we were in Colorado Springs. Who knew decades later our boy’s academy classmate, crew members, and a very close family friend’s name would be on the granite Honor Wall. We’ve attended too many of these ceremonies over the years, and the last three years in a row KCFD lost one of their finest in the line of duty.

Graham Hoffman died April 27, 2025
Kyle Brinker died September 17, 2024
JP Parison died November 17, 2023

Yesterday we attended the Fallen Fire Fighter Ceremony with so many firefighters and families across the nation to honor Graham Hoffman. Graham was known as an outstanding firefighter-paramedic, a friend to all and a genuine good guy. He tragically passed in the line of duty at the age of 29. It was an emotional day, especially as CJ was a part of giving the flag to his family.

Thank you to the men and women of KCFD and first responders across the nation that put your lives on the line every day.
