A clean concrete surface doesn’t always mean it’s ready for an overlay. ⚠️

Cleaning and surface preparation serve two different purposes.

Cleaning helps remove dirt, debris, and surface contaminants. Mechanical preparation, such as diamond grinding when appropriate for the system, prepares the concrete to the surface profile required for proper installation.

Before installing a concrete overlay, contractors should evaluate the existing substrate, address contaminants or existing materials that could interfere with the system, complete necessary repairs, and prepare the surface according to the overlay manufacturer’s requirements.

The takeaway? Don’t judge surface readiness by how clean the concrete looks.
