Sometimes the most memorable detail in a room is the one you least expect.
For my Highland Stream Project, I knew I wanted something dramatic and organic for the dining table. Instead of searching for the perfect arrangement, my son Jalen and I went into our backyard and cut branches from one of our trees.
I loved the way they brought height and movement into the room, especially against the more tailored furnishings. It was a small part of the overall styling, but one of my favorite moments from the project.
And it got me thinking about how all the different elements of a home come together.
Ever walk into a home and immediately feel like everything just works?
The rooms feel connected. The finishes make sense. Nothing feels out of place, even though every room has its own personality.
That's not an accident.
Cohesive design comes from making thoughtful decisions across the entire home.
It's about understanding how colors, materials, proportions, lighting, and architectural details relate to one another.
And here's the important part:
A cohesive home doesn't have to be predictable.
You can have a dramatic dining room, a relaxed family room, and a serene primary suite while still creating a natural flow throughout the home.
The secret is having a clear design direction guiding those individual spaces.
It's not about making everything match.
It's about making everything belong.
