Today is World Mental Health Day, and we want to share something a little deeper than our usual posts.
We talk a lot about what plants need from us, but not enough about what they can do for us. Research suggests that interacting with plants can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote calm. Even the simple act of repotting has been linked to feeling more relaxed and comfortable.
There’s also a naturally occurring soil bacterium called Mycobacterium vaccae that researchers are studying for its possible connection to serotonin-related pathways and emotional well-being.
Pretty wild, right?
Diego and I have both experienced our own mental health struggles. We know plants aren’t the cure, but there’s something comforting about slowing down, getting your hands in the soil, and caring for something living.
Sometimes it’s watering a plant, watching a new leaf unfurl, or simply having a little greenery nearby when life feels heavy. These small moments can help us slow down, be present, and find a little joy in the everyday.
Taking care of yourself matters, too. It’s okay to have hard days, ask for help, and need support.
And if you ever find yourself wandering into Rooted on one of those days, you don’t have to put on a happy face for us. We’re always happy to lend an ear, or simply keep you company while you wander the plants. We are always a safe place.
You deserve the same patience and care you give to everything else in your life. 💚
