Blower Doors: why do we need this diagnostic test?

Your home’s air leaks are invisible.
A blower door makes them measurable.

A blower door uses a calibrated fan to measure how much air leaks through your home. Those hidden leaks can contribute to uncomfortable rooms, wasted energy, and unwanted humidity.

Why call Airelytics?

🏠 Homeowners: Find leakage problems, prioritize repairs, and verify improvements.

🔨 Builders: Catch air-sealing deficiencies while they’re accessible and document construction performance.

Testing provides the evidence.
Targeted corrections deliver the benefits.

Before you invest in changes, invest in understanding your home.

🏡 Before You Invest in Your Home, Invest in Understanding It.

We get it. A Home Performance Assessment might seem like a big investment upfront. But you know what's more expensive? Spending thousands on renovations that don't actually fix the problem.

Down here in Louisiana, we know a thing or two about heat, humidity, and AC systems working harder than a crawfish boiler on a Saturday afternoon! 🦞

The truth is, a comfortable home isn't always about buying bigger, newer, or more expensive equipment. It's about understanding how your home actually performs.

A Home Performance Assessment takes the guesswork out of improvements by identifying performance concerns and creating a clearer pathway toward smarter investments in comfort, efficiency, and durability.

Because nobody wants to spend $20,000 fixing a $2,000 problem... only to discover they fixed the wrong thing!

It’s fall, but don’t fall for faux appearances!

That fresh paint may look lovely, but it can’t tell you whether air leaks, moisture pathways, active microbial growths, or pressure problems was transparently fixed. Those issues have a habit of making a comeback, and nobody invited them. Eek!

👻 If your house still feels off after a repair, call Airelytics.

We’ll bring the blower door, thermal camera, and fogger (plus more equipment) to help track down what’s really happening.

Your building science Ghostbusters are on the case! 🏠

At Airelytics, the level of PPE and diagnostic equipment we bring into a compromised or microbial home is not about appearances—it reflects the level of care we believe the investigation deserves. These environments can involve unknown moisture conditions, airborne particulates, microbial growth, pressure imbalances, and hidden pathways that cannot be understood by simply looking around the house. Protecting our team allows us to work carefully and methodically, while our diagnostic tools help us measure what the building is actually doing. We evaluate airflow, pressure relationships, leakage, temperature, humidity, moisture, and other conditions so that observations can be connected to measurable data. The goal is not to walk into a home and make assumptions; it is to gather enough evidence to understand the mechanisms contributing to the problem. The PPE may be what you notice first, but it is only a snapshot of a much larger process built around protection, measurement, analysis, and finding the source before recommending the solution.

TGIF! Good news all around!

Sometimes, the most valuable investment a homeowner can make is not another product, repair, or proposal. It is knowledge and a clear road map.

This homeowner chose to slow down, better understand the home, and identify what truly needed attention before making more changes. That decision provided clarity, direction, and a better opportunity for a successful outcome.

We are grateful for the kind review and even more grateful that our team could help bring guidance and reassurance during a stressful situation.

At Airelytics, our goal is not to sell homeowners more things. Our goal is to help them understand how their home is performing, identify the source of the problem, and make informed decisions about what should happen next.

Knowledge first. A road map second. Corrections with purpose.

Thank you for trusting Airelytics with your home!

Here we have Michael Broussard: Building Performance Practitioner, Moisture Detective, and Part-Time Human Dehumidifier. 😂

When the complaint is mystery moisture, floors that keep buckling, and a family reporting ongoing health concerns, Michael shows up ready to sweat through the investigation.

Respirator on. Diagnostics running. Building pressures checked. HVAC and enclosure interactions questioned. And somewhere along the way, the shirt becomes approximately 73% perspiration.

Because at Airelytics, we are not looking for the quickest product to sell. We are looking for the source and mechanism behind the problem.

And when health symptoms are part of the story, we keep an important boundary: building diagnostics can identify moisture, pressure, ventilation, and environmental conditions that may warrant correction, but they cannot establish the medical cause of a person’s symptoms.

The floor may be buckling. Michael may be melting. But the investigation continues!!

Some people chase leaks. We chase pressure relationships, moisture pathways, and questionable building decisions.

Wednesday Wisdom:

Should You Clean or Change the Home Before an Investigation?
Generally, no.

If the purpose of the assessment is to understand what caused the problem, the investigative team needs to evaluate the home as close to its original condition as possible.

The building enclosure, HVAC system, moisture conditions, air movement, and pressure relationships all influence one another. Cleaning or making repairs before testing can change those relationships and remove important evidence.

Before the investigation, avoid:

Cleaning or removing visible microbial growth
Removing drywall, flooring, or insulation
Painting or sealing stained surfaces
Fogging or applying antimicrobial products
Installing new vents or modifying ventilation
Changing ductwork or normal HVAC operation
Discarding affected materials without documentation

For example, installing new vents can change airflow, pressure, humidity, and moisture movement. Cleaning can remove visible indicators that help identify where the condition started and how it spread.

The home can still be assessed after changes are made. However, the report will reflect the modified conditions. It may be harder to connect the original problem to its contributing mechanisms with the same level of confidence.

What should you do while waiting?

Stop active water intrusion immediately.
Dry actively wet materials as quickly as possible.
Keep indoor humidity below 60%, with a target near 50% when practical.
Avoid disturbing visible or suspected microbial growth.
Photograph and video each affected area before making changes.
Record dates, locations, odors, staining, leaks, and humidity readings.
Document every change made to the HVAC or ventilation system.
Keep children and sensitive or immunocompromised occupants away from affected areas.
Notify the investigative team if conditions worsen or emergency work becomes necessary.

Do not allow an active leak or wet materials to remain untreated simply to preserve the original conditions.

The priority is:

Document. Stop the moisture. Stabilize the home. Investigate. Correct. Verify.

A clean surface may look better, but identifying and correcting the mechanism is what helps prevent the condition from returning.

Call Airelytics at 337-366-7684.
Stop guessing and start testing.

HOMEOWNERS: SOURCE CONTROL BEFORE PRODUCTS

Is your sales person recommending UV lights, a home scent control, or additional filtration without explaining where the indoor air quality problem is coming from?

These products may support an incomplete indoor air quality strategy and they do not replace source identification and correction.

Adding products without proper testing may also create unintended negative effects. Higher-efficiency filtration can increase airflow resistance when the HVAC system is not designed for it. Scent-control products may introduce additional chemicals into the air. Improperly selected or installed air-cleaning equipment may increase operating costs without correcting the underlying condition.

Before buying another product, ask:

• Where is the moisture or contaminant source?
• How was the source confirmed?
• Is outside air entering through unknown pathways?
• Are pressure, humidity, or HVAC conditions contributing?
• Is the proposed product compatible with my HVAC system?
• Could it create airflow, pressure, or indoor air quality concerns?
• What must be corrected to prevent the condition from continuing?
• How will the correction be verified?

Scent control can mask an odor. Filtration can capture certain airborne particles. UV equipment may help manage specific biological contaminants under the right conditions.

None of these explains why the condition developed.

Airelytics uses diagnostic testing to identify how moisture, airflow, pressure, HVAC performance, and the building enclosure are all connected. We help you understand the source and evaluate the entire home as a system before you invest in additional products.

Find the source. Correct the condition. Verify the result.

Call Airelytics when you need answers, not another product.
