We are a group of dynamic and talented design professionals committed to serving our clients and the communities we live in. For over 35 years, the Interior Design Society has been a rich source of networking, continuing education, and stewardship in the design community. Our Portland, Oregon chapter was founded in September 2008 to bring like-minded independent design professionals, & the venders we rely on, together in one organization. It is obvious in all we do, that our members talent, cooperation, and enthusiasm is unmatched in any design organization in Portland.

✨ SUMMER SOIREE 2026 ✨ What an incredible night!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on the rooftop — whether it was your very first IDS event or you’ve been with us for years, we love and appreciate you all. 🌴

A huge shoutout to our fabulous Special Events Chair, Kaitlyn Carrier (Keller Supply) — this event would not have happened without her. Everything she touches turns to gold… or in this case, tropical paradise 😉

And to the rest of our incredible board — thank you for tirelessly working behind the scenes to make nights like this happen, on top of everything you do for our monthly chapter meetings. Karissa McMillen, our VP and resident Sherwin-Williams color queen, pulled together that gorgeous colorful garland and decor that made the whole night pop. Our membership team, Gordon Bass and Neila Bailey, thank you for everything you do to grow and welcome this community. This chapter runs on your dedication, and we could not do it without you. 💛

To our incredible sponsors — Elkay, Blanco, Pfister, Keller Supply, DT Glass, and Stratus Surfaces — thank you for helping us bring this vision to life. Your support means the world to this chapter.

Our monthly chapter meetings are the heart of what we do, and we work hard to bring you great programming all year long. But twice a year — for our Summer Soiree and Holiday Party — we love kicking off our shoes, putting up our hair, and just soaking in a room full of good people and good energy. Thank you for spending a hot July evening with us! ☀️

Big thanks to the Jupiter NEXT rooftop for hosting us, our amazing DJ for keeping the tunes going all night, and Blanco for sponsoring our photo booth — the poses did not disappoint 📸

From the DIY hand-fan station (because hot rooftop + no AC = we improvise 🌬️) to every little tropical touch — thank you for making this night as beautiful as it was fun.

Here’s to community, color, and cocktails on a rooftop. See you at the next one! 💛

May Office Hours recap ☀️

Today we gathered at and thanks to the sunshine (and a growing crowd), we quickly outgrew our table inside and migrated outdoors midway through. Not a bad problem to have. :) Thanks to LO Coffee House for being so accommodating!

Today brought a little bit of everything… new contractors, designers, local students, an outdoor lighting design company, and a new Bathworks company joining the Portland scene, as well as some newcomers, and some familiar faces.

And somewhere along the way, it started to feel less like networking and more like a reunion with old friends.

That’s exactly the point of Office Hours.

No agenda. No pressure. Just a casual space where anyone can show up and talk design, business, family, travel, projects, or wherever the conversation takes us.

If you’ve never joined us before, consider this your invitation. We promise to make room at the table, and chances are you’ll leave with an encouraging conversation, a big smile, and a new connection that feels authentic and real.

Office Hours happen every 3rd Thursday of the month from 1–3 PM at a new location each time.

Be sure to keep an eye on Instagram and our website calendar so you stay in the loop.

And to everyone who joined us today — thank you. If you were there, drop a comment below about what you loved most so we can say hello and stay connected!

Tonight’s chapter meeting at Heritage School of Interior Design was one of those evenings that reminded us that creativity doesn’t always begin on a screen.

The fabulous instructor at Heritage, Tijana, challenged us to slow down, touch the materials, explore combinations, and think about design in a more intuitive way. As she shared, a flat lay is often the beginning of the story. It’s where the palette, the mood, the contrast, the texture, and the feeling of a space first start to come together.

Honestly, it was such a refreshing reminder that inspiration can come from simply getting your hands into beautiful materials and allowing ideas to evolve naturally.

A huge thank you to Angie and the team at Heritage for hosting us and creating the perfect backdrop for such a creative and engaging evening.

And thank you to our incredible material sponsors for helping make the night possible by donating such outstanding products for our attendees to work with. Your support gave everyone the opportunity to explore, create, and tell new stories through design.

This one was special. Thank you IDS team for all your hard work in making these chapter meetings happen🙌🏽

Hello March 🌈 🍀
It's time to Mark Your Calendars…

March always carries a little energy of its own. Between longer days, hints of spring, and yes… a little St. Patrick’s Day luck 🍀… it feels like the perfect time to lean into momentum.

Here’s what’s happening in the IDS Portland community this month:

🍀 March 10 Chapter Meeting
🍀 March 12 CEU (virtually and in-person)
🍀 March 19 @1-3pm Office Hours
🍀 March 24 @11-1pm Lunch n Learn
🍀 March 25 National Virtual Chapter Mtg
🍀 And a few special moments we can’t wait to share

Be sure to head to our website (link in our bio above) for full details, registration links, and location information — and keep an eye out throughout the month as we highlight each event individually.

March Tip for Our Design Community:
Instead of waiting for luck, create it.

Reach out to one past client, vendor, or industry partner this month just to reconnect — no agenda, no pitch. A simple check-in strengthens relationships, and strong relationships are what build lasting businesses.

Sometimes the most impactful opportunities aren’t lucky — they’re intentional.

We’re looking forward to seeing you this month.

Our next chapter meeting is coming up!

This month, we’ll explore the intersection of art and interior design—how designers can confidently curate, source, and sell artwork as part of their services.

We’ll be joined by Kendra Roberts, Director of Public Engagement at Blackfish Gallery, who will share:

🎨 How to collaborate effectively with galleries
🎨 Best practices for selecting and sourcing art for clients
🎨 How designers can position artwork as a valuable component of their design offering
🎨 Insights into the artists featured in the gallery’s March exhibition
🎨 The role of art in enhancing client experience and elevating project storytelling

This is a fantastic opportunity to deepen your understanding of the art-buying process, strengthen local creative partnerships, and gain fresh inspiration from the work of Portland-based artists.

Be sure to register for this incredible opportunity.

📆 Tuesday, March 10th at 9am

What a meaningful evening at IDS Portland last night✨

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible host, PDX Estates Marketplace, and to our thoughtful panelists— for leading such an engaging and eye-opening conversation.

From strategic deconstruction and thoughtful demo practices to sourcing vintage and creatively repurposing materials, each of you reminded us that great design isn’t just about what’s new—- it’s about what’s possible!

We walked away inspired to look at materials differently, to reduce waste more intentionally, and to continue shaping a design industry that values both beauty and responsibility.

Thank you for sharing your expertise so generously with our community ♻️♻️♻️

✨ IDS Portland Office Hours | Inaugural 2026 ✨

What a way to kick off the year.

We gathered for our first IDS Office Hours of 2026 at The Star in the Pearl, and it was one of those afternoons that reminds us exactly why community matters.

So many new faces. So many good conversations. We talked about our paths into the industry, the businesses we’ve built (and are still building), and big next steps—like one of our new members opening a showroom and navigating what it takes to franchise, hire well, and train thoughtfully.

We dug into what designers really look for when we walk into showrooms with our amazing vendor partners, how to support and harness the energy of new grads, and how much we all learn just by being in the same room together.

And because this is Office Hours… the conversation also went delightfully off the rails. Pets. Kids. Neighborhoods. Where we want to go on future showroom visits. And yes—chickens wearing pants 🐔👖 (please Google it if you haven’t yet… you’re welcome).

There was a lot of laughter, genuine networking, and some really meaningful connections made—and that’s IDS at its best. Open, supportive, curious, and just a little unhinged in the best way.

Already can’t wait for the next one 💛
