That loud BANG from the garage? Usually a spring.

Garage door springs are under serious tension, and most builder-grade springs are rated for about 10,000 cycles. When one lets go, the door suddenly weighs 150+ lbs and the opener can't lift it. Don't force it, and please don't try to fix it yourself.

GOAT techs carry 25,000+ cycle springs on the truck, so most spring jobs are done in one visit, same day. Upfront price, 2 year parts and labor warranty, 24/7 emergency service across Utah.

Heard the bang? Call 385-385-GOAT.

Every year, Remodeling magazine publishes the Cost vs. Value Report comparing what home improvement projects cost against what they add back at resale. In the 2025 report, garage door replacement came in at 268% of cost recouped nationally, higher than a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel, or new windows.
It makes sense when you think about what a garage door actually is. On most homes it's somewhere between a third and half of everything you see from the street. Replacing it changes the whole front of the house in a single day.
We're running $250 off a new door right now. Send us a photo of your current one and we'll tell you what's possible.

This is the most common mistake we see in Utah garages, and it's an honest one.
WD-40 is a solvent and a water displacer. It's great for loosening a stuck bolt. It is not a long-term lubricant, and because it leaves a thin film behind, it collects dust and grit, which is exactly what you don't want on moving garage door parts.
What to use instead: a white lithium or silicone-based garage door lubricant. Hit the hinges, roller bearings, springs, and bearing plates. Twice a year is plenty.
What to skip: the tracks. Tracks are not supposed to be greased. Rollers are meant to roll along them, not slide. Just wipe them clean with a rag.
Ten minutes twice a year and your door runs quieter and lasts longer. Or book the $49 tune-up and we'll handle it along with a full 24-point inspection.

If your door starts down, then reverses and goes right back up, the problem usually isn't the door or the opener. It's the two small sensors sitting about six inches off the ground on either side of the opening.
Every residential opener made since January 1, 1993 is required to have them. They shoot an invisible beam across the doorway, and if anything interrupts it, the door refuses to close. That includes a cobweb, a smudge of dust on the lens, a bike leaned against the bracket, or afternoon sun hitting the lens at the wrong angle.
Wipe both lenses with a dry cloth and make sure they're pointed straight at each other. If one light is blinking, it's out of alignment. If they're clean, aligned, and it still reverses, the wiring or the opener logic board is next, and that's where we come in.

Here's a test you can run in 30 seconds that tells you more than any inspection checklist.
Pull the red release cord to disconnect the opener. Lift the door manually to about waist height. Let go.
If it stays put, your door is balanced and your springs are doing their job. If it slides down or shoots up, the springs are out of balance and your opener is carrying weight it was never built to carry. That's how openers burn out years early.
Try it this weekend and tell us what happened. If your door didn't stay put, we'll get it sorted. 385-385-GOAT
