Travel and exploration are so important for filling our creative buckets. Thank you Kai Maki and Jun Maki for taking me out to a place that was not on my list, at all, but is so far fantastic. What a view!

So the story goes…you have to pass through this space and walk down a hallway to get to the study I designed. I knew I had to capture the patrons attention when they walked down the stairs so I treated this small kitchen as a butlers pantry and added drama. I painted the cabinetry in a full gloss, added a soft pink mosaic backsplash by Artistic Tile some super cool polished nickel k***s by Nest Studio and opted for a dark floral wallpaper pattern to bring a bit of nature into this urban mansion. I wanted the wallpaper and the cabinetry to be complementary but didn’t want to color match. I am not a maximalist, and know this paper is a lot, so I added a modern art contrast with a lot of negative space. In a different area I might have added wainscoting to break up the wallpaper but the hallway was too narrow. It all leads the study where I prominently feature brown and dusty rose shades to tie the rooms together.

Honored to be part of the Brooklyn Heights Designer Showhouse this year. This Silverwing study was the result of letting the 136 year old home guide the design. As a way of honoring the many generations who have taken residence here before we wove classical details such as dentil molding, classic stripe wallpaper, darker trim color, classical lighting from Remains Lighting Company and a portrait from contemporary artist Jessica Helfand , who loves a piece of history as much as we do, together with modern day furniture. The custom desk by Aronson Woodworks: Bespoke Furniture & Claize™ Finishes was made specifically to mimic the vintage rug colors, the amazingly cool hardware from Nest Studio whose k***s seNest Studiotake on vintage daguerrotypes and the dusty rose ceiling all work as a common thread between this and the other two rooms in this studio apartment. Always intentional, always thoughtful, always complementary, always warm and color forward. Come see for yourself the Brooklyn Showhouse is at 1 Monroe Place in Brooklyn Heights Thursday & Friday 11-7 Saturday & Sunday 10-6.

The moments that matter. This beautiful Lee Jofa Lille Linen in old rose matches the pink flowers in the Schumacher Boråstapeter Dahlia Garden wallpaper. Farrow & Ball Brinjal complete the vignette. Each complements the other. Coordinated separates not a three piece suit.
