Cisco Systems, Inc., doing business as Cisco, is an American multinational technology conglomerate corporation that develops, manufactures, and sells hardware, software, telecommunications equipment and other high-technology services and products focused on networking, cybersecurity and AI.[4] Cisco specializes in specific tech markets, such as the Internet of things (IoT), domain security, videoconferencing, and energy management, including products such as Webex, OpenDNS, Jabber, and Jasper.

The company is headquartered in San Jose, California, and, as of June 29, 2026, has a market capitalization of $461 billion.

Cisco Systems was founded in December 1984 by Leonard Bosack and Sandy Lerner, two Stanford University computer scientists. They pioneered the concept of a local area network (LAN) being used to connect distant computers over a multiprotocol router system.

The company went public in 1990 and, by the end of the dot-com bubble in 2000, had a market capitalization of $500 billion, surpassing Microsoft as the world’s most valuable company, prior to losing 80 percent of its value by 2002, as the market bubble burst.

Prepared for liftoff

I Self Lord And Master, shall bring disaster to evil factors
Demonic chapters, shall be captured by Kings
Through the storms of days after
Unto the Earth from the Sun through triple darkness to blast ya
With a force that can’t be compared
To any firepower, for it’s mindpower shared

The brainwake, causes vessels to circulate
Like constellations reflect at night off the lake
Word to the father and mother earth
Seeking everlasting life through this Hell for what it’s worth
Look listen and observe
And watch another c-cypher pullin my peeps to the curb
Heed the words; it’s like ghetto style proverbs
The righteous pay a sacrifice to get what they deserve
Cannot afford to be confined to a cell
Brainwaves swell, turnin a desert to a well
Experience the best teacher; thoughts will spray
Like street sweepers little daddy street preacher
Illustrious feature, narrator you select
Accompanied by deck plus the DJ you respect

The seven and a half combine, over the frontline
The ten percenters, promotin slander in the airtime
Bear in mind jewels be the tools of the trade
Sharp veins heavenly praise and dues are paid

Warrior spiritual, above the clouds

The Maya universe has three levels: the Sky, Earth, and Underworld. The Sky, the realm of the gods and ancestors, is represented by a soaring dragon or bird. Earth, the human domain, is conceptualized as a turtle floating in the primordial sea. The Underworld, home to the lords of death, is a dark, watery realm with an entrance that appears as the mouth of a ferocious shark or centipede. The three levels are connected at the center of the universe by the World Tree, depicted as the th***y ceiba, the tallest tree in the Maya forest.

With bright paint jobs and bouncy hydraulics, the ā€˜low and slow’ rides are an expression of cultural identity for the city’s Mexican American community

Candy paint jobs with glimmering specks of metallics. Custom upholstery of magenta velvet. Bouncing hydraulics cruising low and slow. The names ā€œPurple Rainā€ and ā€œErotic Cityā€ gleaming from the lacquered frames.

These are words that could only describe the famous lowriders belonging to L.A.’s Chicano community, which are the subject of photographer Kristin Bedford’s new book, Cruise Night. For the project, she spent five years immersing herself in Mexican American lowriding clubs in East Los Angeles, attending all of the events she was invited to—weddings, funerals and quinceaƱeras—where the members would display their cars. The result is a series of photos that, like the cars themselves, tell a visual story of how lowriders—the term refers to both the cars and their owners—have used customization as a means of resisting a homogenizing American society that too often suppresses the creativity and pride of its minorities.

The roots of lowriding in L.A. trace all the way back to the 1940s, when car culture was beginning to take hold across America. This was especially true in southern California where families began purchasing cars in order to adapt to the expanded cities of the new, post-war urban landscape.

Like their white counterparts, Mexican American veterans were also purchasing cars with the money they were earning from their service in World War II. As the ā€œhot rodā€ trend swept the country, which comprised mainly of vintage models like Ford Model-Ts being modernized with enlarged engines for speed, Mexican American vets, deftly employing the mechanical training they had received in the army, began to tweak their cars in their own garages as a means of distinguishing themselves both on and off the road. Tinkering with the engines, painting the exteriors and even adding weights in the back to lower the bodies, Mexican Americans were purposefully altering their cars—Chevys, which were in surplus at the time and designed with an X on the bottom that made them easy to modify were especially popular—so that,

Homies are a series of two-inch plastic collectible figurines representing various Chicano Mexican American characters. The line of toys was created by David Gonzales and based on a comic strip that Gonzales created featuring a cast of characters from his youth. Introduced in the year 1998, Homies were initially sold in grocery store vending machines and have become a highly collectible item, and have spawned many imitation toys.

Gonzales began drawing comics while he was in high school. His amateur comic strip was called The Adventures of Chico Loco, and the characters were based on ā€œbarrio guys,ā€ as Gonzales grew up on the tough streets of a poverty-ridden Mexican-American neighborhood. The main character, based on Gonzales himself, was called ā€œHollywood.ā€ The strip, which later changed its title to The Adventures of Hollywood, was picked up by Lowrider magazine and published monthly. More and more barrio characters from Gonzales’ experiences were introduced to the public through the Hollywood strip — these became ā€œHomies.ā€ The word ā€œhomieā€ is an English language slang term found in American urban culture, with the word ā€œhomeboyā€ meaning a male friend from back home. In use in the West Coast Latino community for decades, the word ā€œhomieā€ has crossed over into the mainstream culture.

Find my back in the cold
Trapped in another soul, they can hear me holler
I’m colder than the game
See ā€˜em all strapped in an’ can’t move and I’m sinkin’ lower
Heaven gonna help me
ā€˜Cause I feel the world weighin’ on me heavy, tryna keep it steady
Ready for the mission God, shine your love on me
Save me, please

If I’m goin’ alone, I’ve been gone for so long
Ain’t nobody, you can’t hear a word
Perched in the night, lookin’ out nowhere
Where’s home? I done hit a nerve
Pain in my eyes, in the time I find, I’m stronger than I ever was
Here we go again, God, shine your love on me
Save me, please

Everybody want world peace

Then you go and buy your own piece

From the artist XL:

Last night was a movie. (You were streaming perpetual war.) The sidewalk is my runway. (A camera on every door.) Strike a pose. (The angle from your eye to your nose.) Anything can be a face nowadays. Who designed the costumes for those political actors? Towards stylish art; a stylist’s artist. Wearable sculpture. Appareled in criminality. Performance or the real thing? Collage as garment. The fabric of our lives. A heart on your sleeve. A wolf in sheep’s clothing. Patterning, pinning, drape. A tracked body. A body of work working to evade capture. The clothes-body unit. To mend, to extend. Errant frequencies of desire. Peace-on-earth officer on the floor. Quick and easy returns. Pure time out of nowhere. Historicism’s ripped trousers. Out of the closet and into the gallery.

This show has been seized as an opportunity to continue to reincorporate one’s former loves of fashion design, styling, and image-making into their practice at large. To ā€œput onā€ again fashion’s unique capacities to inspire self-discovery and solidarity, complicate cultural norms, and undermine world structures. It’s an impulse to clarify for oneself where this potential lies within the context of capitalism’s regulating drive towards self-identification through commerce, the relative ease with which one can adopt a ā€œlookā€, and the persistent desire to be seen while surveillance technology infiltrates most aspects of our lives.

Personally, this art show appealed to my passion for cycling and interest in fashion, demonstrating its interwoven ties to the very nature of the fabric of society.

What better way to sneak diss an entire C-Suite than a pair of vintage Levi thrifted jeans and a graphic tee with a shark the size of a fisherman’s boat commenting ā€œpersonally, I think the size of your boat is just fine.ā€

āš”ļøWanna count my blessings, but I’m trying to decolonize my mind šŸ”±

An English mathematician, logician and cryptographer, Alan Turing was responsible for breaking the N**i Enigma code during World War II. His work gave the Allies the edge they needed to win the war in Europe, and led to the creation of the computer.

He was highly influential in the development of theoretical computer science, providing a formalisation of the concepts of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, which can be considered a model of a general-purpose computer. Turing is widely considered to be the father of theoretical computer science.

The laws at the time prevented Turing from being openly gay, but he never kept his sexuality secret either. He was open with his social circles at Kings College in Cambridge, which was ā€œan oasis of acceptanceā€ at the time, Hodges said. Many people would have clung to that oasis, he said, but Turing branched out to continue his work.

In 1952, he was arrested and charged with ā€œindecencyā€ after a brief relationship with another man. Defiant, he did not deny the charges.

ā€œWhen he was arrested, the first thing he said was he thought that this shouldn’t be against the law,ā€ Hodges said. ā€œHe gave a statement that was unapologetic, that detailed what had happened.ā€

Enomoto Takeaki was a former samurai and prominent Meiji-era statesman who spearheaded the first organized Japanese emigration to Latin America. In 1897, as Japan’s Minister of Agriculture and Commerce, he established a colonization association that led 34 Japanese settlers to found the ā€œEnomoto Colonyā€ in Escuintla, Chiapas, Mexico.

His visionary project in Mexico was foundational to the Nikkei diaspora, marking a significant milestone in Japan-Mexico relations:

The Enomoto Colony (1897): Seeking to establish overseas agricultural colonies and provide a fresh start for struggling farmers, Enomoto championed the founding of a settlement in Chiapas, Mexico, which became the very first mass immigration of Japanese to Latin America.

The Vision: The pioneers were primarily tasked with managing agricultural lands, focusing on the cultivation of coffee, rubber, and indigo.

Historical Impact: Although the initial colony struggled with diseases, isolation, and fragmentation, Enomoto’s pioneering efforts laid the groundwork for future generations of Japanese immigrants. His vision ultimately cemented a lasting cultural and economic bridge between Japan and Mexico.

🧬 Developmental Psychology (Object Permanence)
Coined by Jean Piaget, object permanence is the cognitive understanding that objects and people continue to exist even when they cannot be seen, heard, or touched. Infants typically develop this between 4 to 9 months of age.

šŸŒ¶ļø Alt-rock icons Red Hot Chili Peppers embody all that is sunny and seedy about L.A. The band-frontman Anthony Kiedis, bassist Michael ā€œFleaā€ Balzary, guitarist Hillel Slovak, and drummer Jack Irons-baked that dichotomy into their sound from the moment they came together in 1983. Fusing Black Flag’s furious punk and Parliament’s h***y funk, RHCP combined berserker bass-slapping energy and absurdist humor, making them college radio’s resident court jesters throughout the ā€˜80s.

Slovak’s death from a he**in overdose in 1988—and Irons’ subsequent depression-induced exit-forever altered the band’s DNA. But the arrival of muscular drummer Chad Smith and wunderkind guitarist John Frusciante helped 1989’s hard-rocking Mother’s Milk quickly reach Gold-record status, and, as the alternative revolution raged, RHCP emerged as kings of the mosh pit with 1991’s Blood Sugar S*x Magik.
That album revealed the melancholic nuances of Flea’s and Frusciante’s playing, providing Kiedis with an emotional outlet to reckon with his troubled past on the blockbuster ballad ā€œUnder the Bridge.ā€

Blood Sugar S*x Magik’s multi-Platinum success drove Frusciante into a period of seclusion, during which the band soldiered on with Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro. But Frusciante returned for 1999’s massively successful Californication, which twisted the band’s funk-rock template into a sobering, sophisticated collection of cautionary tales, led by ā€œScar Tissueā€ and the title track. RHCP retained a chart-topping, festival-headlining reign well into the 21st century, with guitarist Josh Klinghoffer lending his talents to the band after Frusciante again spent time away. But after Frusciante rejoined once more in 2019, his work on a pair of 2022 albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen, underscored that his artful style is the Peppers’ special spice.

Growing up in Berlin with German-Turkish heritage, Arda Saatçi dreamed of becoming a pro footballer. He played for Berliner AK U19 and SV Altlüdersdorf, but his ambitions were derailed when injury forced his retirement at the age of 18.

Pursuing a variety of sports – swimming, running, weight training among them – Arda leaned towards endurance fitness activities, developing a highly-focused attitude along the way. With extreme training and running marathons as his main focus, he has gained a large following on social media as a fitness influencer. Known as a ā€˜fitness cyborg’, his audience are enthralled by his high-intensity training – which he practises up to 30 hours a week – and motivational messaging. He does 1,000 pull-ups in under two hours, for example. Why? ā€œWhy not?ā€ he says. ā€œI want to push the boundaries of what’s possible.ā€
