Sometimes the hardest part is simply knowing where to start.

This client had recently moved into a new home after travelling abroad with her young family, with belongings arriving from more than one home. She had plenty of storage - but the sheer volume of stuff had become overwhelming.

Once we started categorizing, editing and giving things a proper home, everything moved much faster than either of us expected.

And the bit of her review I love most? They’re still using it.

Because a home doesn’t necessarily need more storage. Sometimes you just need another pair of eyes to see what’s already there.

I’m not anti-toy subscriptions. Some of the toys are genuinely brilliant. But as an organizer, I see the other side of them: the sheer volume of toys that can build up over several years - especially once you have more than one child.

Developmental stages overlap. Younger siblings grow into things while older ones are still playing with them. And meanwhile, birthdays, Christmas and all the other toys keep coming too.

So if you’re thinking about subscribing, my advice isn’t don’t do it. It’s simply: think about the long game.

Where will you store what isn’t currently being played with? What will you rotate? And are you prepared to regularly edit what you have?

Because kids really don’t need endless toys. They need to be able to see, choose and enjoy the ones they have.

Know someone considering a toy subscription? Send this to them before the first box arrives.

Not everything needs a permanent place on a shelf.

For kids who do a lot of arts and crafts, I love a rolling cart because the whole activity can move to wherever they’re actually using it - the kitchen table, the playroom floor, wherever.

Here, we used containers we already had to separate all the pens, crayons, paints and tools, with coloring and activity books underneath.

Then when they’re finished? Everything goes back on the cart and the whole thing can be wheeled away.

Simple, flexible and designed around how kids actually use their things.

There’s nothing better than hearing that a space doesn’t just look better - it works better too.

Because that’s always the goal: systems designed around how you actually live.

Thank you for the lovely words.

I don't decide how many pajamas a child should own - the drawer does.

Once one category starts spilling into another, something has gone slightly off.

Maybe they've outgrown some.
Maybe the holiday pajamas have taken over.
Maybe there are just lots of favorites.

Either way, I find families are much happier when a category of kids' clothing has enough breathing room.

It's easier to find things.
Easier to put them away.
And much easier for children to manage themselves.
