Our free monthly native plant propagation class, 'Seedy Saturday', returns this week with a special afternoon edition. Join us from 3pm to 5pm Ascot Hills Park: Los Angeles with our friends from North East Trees for a speNorth East Treesing on native seed and reviewing a few ways to help the little ones 'wake up' (or 'germinate' if you are more into sciency stuff). We'll be covering:
- How to scarify seed through methods like hot water treatments, clipping, sand papering and just straight praying for luck
- How to leach and cold stratify various native seed
- Tips for identifying and cleaning native seed
- Hands on experience cleaning and sowing seed
We'll be working with Coffeeberry, White Sage, Sugar Bush and more of our amazing local seed, along with seed of non-native ice plant and yellow starthistle.....just kidding about the last two; checking to see if anyone reads this far down on an Instagram post. As always, registered attendees can take home seed, pots and soil to try waking these little ones up at their own homes. Register thru the link in our Instagram bio, or by visiting the Artemisia Nursery Eventbrite page. This class will be led by Antonio Sanchez from Antonio Sanchez , who has Antonio Sanchezxpereince growing and many times failing with native plants
