Burkhart Company

Your local source for fine custom cabinetry and interior shutters. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Burkhart Company, owned and operated by Tom Burkhart, is located in Louisville, Kentucky and opened for business in 1978. Back then, fresh out of woodworking school in North Carolina, Tom set up shop in the basement of a rented house. As his reputation grew, so did business and Tom moved to larger facilities, first on Frankfort Avenue and then to Butchertown, a Louisville neighborhood where the Burkhart Company spent the next 11 years. In 2001 the Burkhart Company relocated to its current location, a 65,000 square foot historic property on South Preston Street. Built in the 1800's, the facility was originally the Falls City Jeans and Woolen Mills and was later the home of the Enro Shirt Factory. Now with 15 employees, the Burkhart Company is considered the first choice by Louisville's best designers, builders and architects and for anyone looking for high-quality custom woodworking. Over the years Tom's business has spread by word of mouth from his many satisfied customers. Today the Burkhart Company is producing fine woodworking projects for a wide variety of clients for every area of the home or business. To discuss a project for your needs, call 502-587-1538 or visit our website, www.BurkhartCompany.com to contact us.

Less is more….
More and more we are receiving requests for more simplicity and function in the kitchen. Clients are opting out of upper cabinets and placing more emphasis on usability and design. Instead of hiding everything away they are choosing to keep out those most precious pieces that they use often and show their distinct personality. In this semi-custom kitchen we choose to highlight the custom hood, adding a pantry for storage instead of upper cabinets. Hardware, countertops, backsplash and lighting get a chance to step to the forefront.

Semi-custom doesn’t mean builder grade!! This cozy cottage kitchen is the perfect example of how a semi-custom kitchen can look amazing and accommodate all your needs. In this space we were able to mix custom features in with our semi-custom cabinets, we ordered the boxes unfinished, we were able to custom paint them in our shop in Sherwin Williams warm tone Natural Choice. Working with the client’s designer Theresa TIM interiors we designed a custom built hood, added pull outs to the pantry, created a seamless look around the tv/double oven and even accommodated an existing yet unseen laundry shoot.
This cozy, cottage kitchen is the perfect example of showing off the CUSTOM in semi custom!

Monday morning pop quiz! Can you spot the Burkhart custom pieces in this updated primary bath? When this homeowner asked us to design some custom pieces to complement his already impressive custom closet and vanity, we were happy to oblige! The request was to add custom framed mirrors and a man door that shared the same molding, wood species and color as the rest of the space to create a cohesive and custom look.
Not every project is completing a whole space, just the most important part! Wait till you see how we brought this look throughout the rest of the home, keep following!
