It’s totally ridiculous how excited I was about these butterfly snaps. but As a flower farmer - there are just days of “heck yeah … I did that” 😂😂 then you turn around and swear cause you see aphids or whatever other nightmare flower farming comes with.

So let’s talk Lisianthus!

1. They take on average 150+ days from germination. That’s 5 months of taking up room doing nothing. Plus they are dramatic seedlings on temperature.
2. They have no scent
3. Can last 2 weeks in the vase.

I was about to pull the plug on keeping these blooms in the flower line up next year but suddenly they bloom and I’m like “okay, it wasn’t that terrible to grow.”

Dahlias will throw a random bloom because it was too hot, too cold, too much sun or not enough or just cause it feels like it. Although dahlias will settle into a form - sometimes their snit fits produce an extra flair.

Lisianthus lesson of the day: (other than they are a pain to grow from seed 🤪😂) that gorgeous center bloom (the king bloom) has to go! ✂️

Removing it encourages the side buds to open, giving us more stems and a fuller, more beautiful harvest. It’s one of those flower-growing tricks but then you are staring at a perfectly little bloom with a 2-3” stem. Grrr.
