A beautiful pool is great. A pool that doesn't require constant upkeep? Even better! ☀️

One of the reasons homeowners love fiberglass pools is their smooth, nonporous surface. Compared with some other inground pool options, fiberglass typically requires less scrubbing and surface maintenance.

That means less time worrying about upkeep and more time enjoying your backyard with family and friends.

At Foothills Outdoor Designs, we specialize in fiberglass pool installation in Maryville, TN and throughout East Tennessee. If you're considering a new pool, we'd love to help you explore your options!

How many months can you actually use a pool in East Tennessee?

More than you might think — especially when you consider things like sunlight, pool placement and heating while you're planning your project.

And here's something else we think is important: your pool area doesn't stop being useful just because nobody is swimming. The right patio, seating and outdoor features can make the space somewhere your family enjoys well beyond the hottest days of summer.

Our newest blog looks at pool season in Maryville, what can affect water temperature and a few things to consider if you'd like to get more use out of your backyard pool each year.

Thinking about adding a pool? Give this one a read!

How big should your fiberglass pool be? The answer isn’t necessarily “as big as the backyard allows.”

The way your family will use the pool, the amount of patio and entertaining space you want, your property’s elevation and access, and even features like tanning ledges and built-in seating can all affect which pool size makes the most sense. Our newest blog explains what to consider before choosing a fiberglass pool based on dimensions alone.

Choosing a fiberglass pool color from a small sample can be harder than it sounds because you’re not really choosing the color of the pool—you’re choosing how the water will look once the pool is filled.

The pool finish, sunlight, depth of the water and surroundings can all influence the final appearance. A finish that looks fairly subtle on a sample may create a completely different effect once you’re looking through several feet of water.

Instead of asking only, “Which pool color do I like?” think about the overall look you want for the backyard. Do you picture bright, crisp blue water? Something deeper and more dramatic? A softer, more natural look?

It’s one of those selections that deserves a little more thought than pointing to your favorite square on a sample board.

Pool steps aren’t just how you get in and out of the water. They can change how you actually use the pool.

Wide entry steps can become a place to sit, cool off and talk while still being in the water. They can also make getting in and out more comfortable for different ages and abilities. Depending on the fiberglass pool design, the steps may take up very little swimming space or become a larger feature of the pool.

When you’re comparing fiberglass pool models, look beyond the overall shape and dimensions. Pay attention to the entry design and picture how your family will actually use it on a normal summer afternoon.

Sometimes the details you barely notice in a pool photo end up being the ones you appreciate most once you’re using it.

One of the easiest things to overlook when planning a pool? All the stuff that comes with actually using it.

Towels, pool floats, goggles, sunscreen, toys, drinks and wet shoes all need somewhere to go. Before your backyard is finished, think about where those things will live and how people will move between the house and pool.

A little planning can keep everyday pool days from turning into a trail of wet towels through the kitchen. The best pool spaces aren’t only beautiful. They make life outside easier too.
