Part 2: The $2 Hack To Straighten Our Rescued Avocado Tree! 🥑✨

Good day Techy Green Thumbs family!

After saving this Hass avocado seedling from 110°F car heat shock, it started growing so fast that the main stem went completely floppy!

Today, I’m sharing the simple "ingredients" for a quick hack to get it standing tall and true:
🎋 Lowe's Bamboo Stake: Inserted carefully alongside the pit.
✂️ Dollar General Wash Rags: Cut into soft cloth strips so we don't cut into that tender green stem.
✂️ Final Clean Up: Snip off any dead, dry tendrils so all the energy goes straight to top foliage growth!

I hope this quick hack helps your home garden setup!

From 110° Car Heat Shock to Standing Tall! 🥑🔥
Good day Techy Green Thumbs family!
Back in mid-August, this little Hass avocado tree got cooked inside my car in 100°–110° heat. Most people would have thrown it out, but we don't give up in the TGT Lab!
After 4–5 weeks of indoor rehab at 75°F, feeding with Miracle-Gro singles, and hardening off in the Pepper Lab shade canopy, it fought back. But as the top foliage grew, the stem went completely floppy!
Check out this quick hack to straighten it out: 🎋 Bamboo Stake: Picked up easily at Lowe's (placed carefully beside the seed pit!). ✂️ Soft Ties: Cut-up thin wash rags from Dollar General (soft on delicate green bark!).

Planting Garlic in Containers: 3 Essential Rules for Big Harvests (Zone 9b/10a)

Nothing matches that early-morning fall cool front energy! 💨🔥 On Sunday, October 18th, the first cold front of 2026 rolled through McAllen, and I decided to double up productivity in the TGT Lab.
While the smoker was low-and-slow with a prime rib roast and turkey breast, I hit the container station to get our fall garlic in the ground.
🌿 3 Quick Garlic Rules to Remember: 1️⃣ Keep the papery skin ON the clove for natural protection.
2️⃣ Always plant pointy-side UP.
3️⃣ Give them loose, well-draining soil.

Watch how we utilize multi-crop container spacing with basil, concord grapes, and baby onions. Everything has its place!

As we transition into Fall down here in South Texas, broadcasting water and fertilizer over your whole container bed is just a waste of nutrients!
Today in the TGT Lab, I am demonstrating our Fall Spot-Feeding Method. By using a targeted watering can setup, we deliver concentrated nutrients directly to the active root zones of our crops.
Case in point: just a few days into this routine, we've got fresh, vibrant asparagus sprigs popping up right alongside our celery and romaine lettuce!

Stop letting your pepper and tomato flowers fall off without producing fruit! 🫑🍅

In today’s video from TGT Lab HQ, I’m demonstrating our simple "Flower Tap Method" for hand-pollinating nightshades. Since peppers are self-pollinating, a light mechanical vibration is often all it takes to trigger pollen release—especially when growing in protected patio or container setups.
Watch the quick clip to see the exact tap technique, plus the fresh baby peppers setting on the vine right after!

Why Every Garden Needs Orinoco Bananas! (Ultimate Bee & Pollinator Magnet)

Every crop in the TGT Lab serves a purpose! 🐝 Watch how our workerbees hit these purple Orinoco Banana blooms (also known as the Texas Greensmith), then turn right around and help pollinate our tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, and basil!
Knowing that nature is doing the heavy lifting while we get to enjoy fresh, heat-tolerant, wind-resilient bananas is the ultimate homesteading win.
Get in your yard, get those fall tomatoes and peppers planted, and let’s keep building those harvests! Drop your questions or progress down in the comments!

🌿 Sizzling Fall Heat? Use THIS Living Shade Hack to Protect Delicate Greens! 🥬

Early fall in South Texas still feels like late summer, but delicates like celery, Romaine lettuce, and collard greens can't wait!
To keep the sizzling heat from beating up our young Bonnie transplants, we brought out a TGT Lab secret weapon: living shade. We pruned back our heavy basil plants to make room for two containers—interplanting celery with asparagus in one, and pairing Romaine with collard greens in the second (prepped with Espoma Organic Garden-Tone).
The basil canopy provides a 50/50 sun-and-shade microclimate right when they need it most. As the season turns, we trim more basil to let full sun in!
And because everything in the Lab has a purpose, every pruned basil, apple, and peach branch gets dried and saved for kindling and meat smoking on the Weber pit!

🍅 Don't Plant Tomatoes Without Doing THIS First! Quick Root & Stem Hack! 🌿

Getting ready to put your fall Roma tomatoes into the ground? Before you dig that hole, try this quick stem fortification trick!
We demonstrate a quick snap technique to remove the bottom foliage from your transplants. Removing lower leaves lets you bury the stem deep, triggering every buried node to sprout strong new roots!
Whether you are setting up your spring beds or taking advantage of our Zone 10a fall season, this simple step creates healthier, more storm-resistant tomato plants.
Do you plant your tomatoes deep, or bury them at pot level? Let us know in the comments below!
