Here’s a quick look at one of our complete high-efficiency HVAC system replacements.

We replaced the older furnace, indoor evaporator coil, and conventional outdoor AC with a Goodman 97% modulating variable-speed gas furnace, Goodman EEV evaporator coil, and Amana S side-discharge inverter air conditioner. The Amana S uses the same underlying Daikin-family side-discharge inverter platform as the Goodman SD systems we commonly install.

In this short overview, you’ll see us unboxing and setting the new equipment, leveling the furnace and coil, comparing the sound of the old outdoor unit with the new inverter system, and showing the completed indoor and outdoor installation.

After the system had been running for a couple of months, the homeowner told us he was especially impressed with how much quieter it was and how much more consistent the temperature stayed throughout the home.

That’s one of the comfort advantages of properly selected modulating and inverter equipment. Instead of always running at full output, the system can operate at lower capacity when the home doesn’t need 100%, helping provide longer, gentler cycles and more even temperatures.

Here’s a closer look at one of our complete high-efficiency HVAC system replacements and some of the installation practices we encourage homeowners to consider when comparing one estimate to another.

On this project, we removed an older furnace, indoor evaporator coil, and conventional outdoor air conditioner and installed a Goodman 97% modulating variable-speed gas furnace, Goodman EEV evaporator coil, and Amana S 16 SEER2 side-discharge inverter air conditioner. The Amana S uses the same underlying Daikin-family side-discharge inverter platform as the Goodman SD systems we more commonly install.

In this 22-minute highlights version, you’ll see us remove the old equipment, complete custom sheet-metal work, set and level the new furnace and evaporator coil, flush and prepare the existing refrigerant line set, set the new outdoor unit, flow nitrogen while brazing, pressure test the refrigerant piping, pull a deep vacuum, and complete startup and final testing.

We also explain some of the comfort advantages of modulating furnaces and inverter air conditioners. Instead of always operating at full output like basic single-stage equipment, these systems can adjust their capacity as the home needs it, helping provide longer, gentler cycles, quieter operation, and more consistent temperatures throughout the home.

• Goodman furnace: 10-year parts, 10-year one-time unit replacement for qualifying failures, and lifetime heat exchanger coverage
• Goodman indoor coil: 10-year parts
• Amana S outdoor unit: 10-year parts and 10-year one-time unit replacement for qualifying failures
• Daikin One thermostat: 12-year parts coverage

The old thermostat was hot to the touch and had no display.

This customer called us because his older Honeywell touchscreen thermostat had no display and was getting hot. We verified proper voltage was reaching it and determined the thermostat itself had failed.

We replaced it with an Ecobee Smart Thermostat Lite Wi-Fi thermostat and then used our Fieldpiece psychrometer to verify the actual temperature and humidity at the thermostat so we could make sure the new thermostat was reading accurately.

Ecobee also allows wireless room sensors to be added for better temperature averaging throughout the home or to prioritize a bedroom at night.
