🏗️ From the Drawings to the Field

Today’s site visit included meeting with the contractor to review the newly installed foundation and discuss how the project is progressing from the plans into construction.

We work closely with our contractors and project partners throughout the building process. These on-site conversations help everyone stay aligned, address questions as they arise, and maintain the design intent established in the construction documents.

Quality design does not end when the drawings are complete. Collaboration helps ensure the finished project reflects the same care and attention to detail that went into planning it.

🏡 River House Renovation

When our clients first came to us, they already loved their home on the Rappahannock River. They spend a lot of time there throughout the year, but wanted more room for guests, better views of the water, and a home that reflected their river lifestyle.

The ceilings were just under eight feet tall, the kitchen and bathrooms felt too small, and the bedrooms had lots of wood paneling making each room feel even smaller. This sweet couple gave us the freedom to bring our design ideas to the table and shape the space around what mattered most to them.

The renovation involved demolishing nearly the entire structure while preserving a few walls and meaningful features, including the original masonry fireplace. During the rebuild, the roof was removed and raised for taller interior spaces, the exterior materials were completely changed, and the design opened up expansive views of the river.

We loved working with them to create a place where they can gather with guests and enjoy the setting they’ve always treasured.
