Over the years, we’ve been lucky enough to support a lot of the people, programs, and causes that make this area what it is.

From the Junior Livestock Auction and local rodeo programs, to The Horse of Many Colors, the Utah Food Bank, and other community events and fundraisers — these are the kinds of things we’re proud to show up for.

Not because it makes a good post.
Because this is home, no matter how big it gets.

These are our neighbors, our customers, our friends, and the families we see around town every day.

One of the things we hear all the time is, “I was told I need to replace the whole system.”

Sometimes that’s absolutely the right call.
But sometimes there’s another option.

𝐈𝐟 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐣𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐧 𝐨𝐧/𝐨𝐟𝐟 𝐬𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐇𝐕𝐀𝐂 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦, a smart thermostat can give you a lot more control over how your home feels — and how often your system has to run.

You can adjust temperatures from your phone, build schedules around when you’re actually home, and avoid heating or cooling an empty house more than necessary.

They can also help make those shoulder seasons a little easier, when mornings are cold, afternoons warm up, and Utah weather can’t seem to make up its mind. 😂

The biggest thing, though, is making sure the thermostat is compatible with your system and set up correctly. A fancy thermostat won’t help much if it isn’t communicating with your equipment the way it should.

𝐎𝐬𝐭𝐲 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐤… 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧.

We start off pretty nice Monday, but showers move in Tuesday afternoon and stick around through much of the week. By Friday, we’re looking at highs in the mid-50s and an overnight low around 32°.

Translation: this is officially “the furnace is definitely running” weather.

If yours has been making a strange noise, struggling to keep up, or just hasn’t had its fall checkup yet, now’s a good time to get ahead of it before the colder nights become the norm.

Ever since we walked into the Daniel Town meeting for our business license back in November of 2017, people have asked us the same question:

“𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐠?” 🐸

There’s actually a pretty simple answer.
Jeremy’s parents nicknamed him “Bullfrog” when he was a baby, and years later, when it came time to build a heating and air company, the frog just made sense.

We also knew we didn’t want to look like every other HVAC company out there. No generic snowflake. No flame. No red-and-blue swoosh...

We wanted something people would remember.

Back then, Ostmann’s was a one-man operation being built from the ground up. A lot has changed since this photo was taken — more trucks, more customers, more projects, and an incredible team behind it all!

But the frog?
He’s been here from the beginning. 🐸

If somebody tells you your furnace or A/C needs to be replaced, that might be exactly right.

But it’s also okay to ask questions.
What failed?
Can it be repaired?
Is the repair worth doing?
How much life could the system realistically have left?

I’ve always believed homeowners should understand what they’re being asked to spend money on before making a big decision.

Sometimes I’m going to look at it and tell you the first guy was right — replacement makes the most sense.

Sometimes we find another option.

Either way, you should feel confident about the decision, not pressured into it.

WHAT THE FRIDAY 😳

This A/C condenser got squished by a chunk of ice sliding off the roof! We found this one last spring, and it’s been talked about in the shop ever since. 😂

Utah winters can be rough on outdoor equipment, especially when condensers are sitting directly below rooflines where snow and ice can come down hard.

Sometimes the fix is a repair. Sometimes it means replacing the unit. And sometimes the smartest move is relocating the condenser somewhere a little less… dangerous.

We’ve seen a lot over the years, but this one definitely earned its place in the Ostmann’s hall of fame.

Here’s a look back at one of our new construction projects from earlier this year.

The homeowners wanted to make the most of every inch of their floor plan, so we designed part of the HVAC system with sub-slab ductwork, running the ducting below the concrete floor before the slab was poured.

It takes more planning on the front end, but when it’s done right, it can free up valuable space above and help keep the finished home clean and uncluttered.

This is one of those projects that shows why HVAC needs to be part of the conversation early in a new build. A little extra planning before the walls and floors go in can make a huge difference in how the home looks, feels, and functions when it’s finished!

Definitely a fun one for our crew!

Garrett recently had us install a gas hookup for his BBQ, and we loved seeing his review afterward:

“Excited for the BBQ hook up.”

Gas lines are one of those services people don’t always think of when they hear HVAC, but they’re definitely part of what we do.

BBQs, fireplaces, appliances, garage heaters, and other gas-fed equipment all need to be installed safely and correctly, and that’s something our team can help with.

TECH TIP TUESDAY 🛠️

Your thermostat’s FAN setting can be surprisingly useful during these in-between seasons.

In the fall, running the fan without heating or cooling can help move cooler air through the house and even out temperatures. That may mean your A/C doesn’t have to kick on as quickly when the afternoon warms up.

The same idea can help in winter. Circulating the air can reduce those rooms that feel noticeably warmer or colder than the rest of the house, so your furnace isn’t constantly trying to correct uneven temperatures.

And because the blower does use electricity, we usually recommend using your smart thermostat's "on fo XX minutes" setting, not just constantly on to help with energy bills.
