10/04/2026
It's October; with the flip of the calendar, the weather went from 70s to 50s with frost overnight, and plants are swiftly moving towards dormancy here. I'm working on getting plants cut back for winter and inventory taken. The website will close to new orders on October 11th. If you need any last minute plants, get your orders in!
I'm still getting plants in the ground here, too. October is fine for planting and I will plant until daytime temperatures are too uncomfortable for me to be outside long. I will also keep watering plants, because we're still in moderate drought here. If you aren't getting rain, keep watering until the soil freezes! I also need to get all of my new woody plants caged for winter, because rabbits and deer are relentless. This is especially important for Hamamelis, because witch hazels are a favorite winter food.
We had a good time at Fall Hosta Forum. It was nice seeing old friends and meeting customers in person for the first time! Unsurprisingly, we bought more plants from other vendors. We're still lining up events for 2026, but my speaking schedule is getting full. If you want me to give a talk or you have an event you want us to sell plants at, get in touch!
I'll send out a quick update once the site closes for the season. I do try to do a newsletter monthly, so expect to see something in November and December. In the meantime, thanks for your continued support!
