21 years ago today 🥂🥂
All that love, laughter, and happiness in one photograph. And what a life we’ve built since ♥️

Every year around this time, the same question comes up…can we have it done before the holidays? 🎄

And as much as we’d love to make that happen for every client, sometimes the answer needs to be no.

I’ve learned a few lessons about this over the years, including one Christmas Eve installation I’ll never forget!

We’re talking holiday deadlines and managing client expectations on this week’s episode of Only Girl on the Jobsite.

You know that little space in your home that you’re not quite sure what to do with? Sometimes those are my favorite spaces to work with!

I love finding ways to turn an overlooked corner into something special. In this home, we tucked a cozy window seat between two built in bookcases, creating the perfect little spot to read, enjoy a cup of coffee, or just take in the view.

And the best part is we made use of a space that might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

So, take another look around your home. Is there a little corner or an empty wall that could be doing so much more?

Your construction project is behind schedule, your client wants answers, and you don’t have any. Sound familiar?

Delays happen. But how you communicate through them can make or break your client’s trust.

In this week’s episode of Only Girl on the Jobsite, I’m sharing how to navigate construction delays, manage client expectations, and protect your business when timelines don’t go as planned.

Beautiful design is in the details, but bringing those details to life requires more than a good design plan.

This custom pantry is a perfect example. From the cabinetry and shelving to the finishes and storage, every element was thoughtfully considered to create a space that feels cohesive with the rest of the home while serving the client’s everyday needs.

Projects like this are why I believe understanding the construction process is such an important part of being an interior designer. When you know how to collaborate with architects, builders, and trades, you can make more informed decisions, anticipate challenges, and see your design vision through to completion.

The result is a space that’s not only beautiful, but truly functional for the people who live there.

Your discovery call starts long before you get on Zoom.

Potential clients are already deciding what they think about your value through your website, your portfolio, your social media, and the way you talk about your work.

For Episode 300 of Only Girl on the Jobsite™, I sat down with to talk about how to communicate your value before the discovery call even begins, the trust signals clients are looking for, and the “pink flags” you shouldn’t ignore.

And this conversation is GOOD.

This is the part that gets missed.

We talk a lot about what to charge for design and construction management. But the number only works when you know exactly what you’re agreeing to do.

That’s why so much of what I teach inside The Designer’s Edge happens before you’re managing the jobsite.

How to define the project.
How to build a real Scope of Work.
How to understand your role.
How to price the work you’re actually going to do.
And how to put systems in place that hold up once construction begins.

Because the goal isn’t just to charge more.

It’s to build a construction management process that’s profitable, clear, and sustainable for your business.

Enrollment in The Designer’s Edge closes tomorrow, October 5, at midnight ET.

The finished project is the part everyone gets to see.

What they don’t see are the hundreds of decisions that had to happen before the room looked like this.

The conversations with the contractor. The site visits. The details that needed to be caught before they became expensive problems. The moments when someone had to know what to ask, what to push back on and what needed to happen next.

That’s construction management.

And if you’re going to take on that responsibility in your design business, you need more than good instincts and a beautiful design.

You need to know how to define your role, price the work, protect your scope, communicate with the team and lead the project through construction.

That’s exactly what I teach inside The Designer’s Edge™.

You’ll get lifetime access to the complete course, plus 12 months of live support inside The Studio so you’re not left trying to figure out the hard parts alone.

Enrollment closes Monday at midnight ET.

If you’re ready to feel as prepared for the construction as you are for the design, The Designer’s Edge is waiting for you.

If you’re managing construction projects but still figuring out the process as you go, you’re probably working harder than you need to.

And it can get expensive.

The hours you didn’t account for.
The scope that keeps growing.
The questions that come up on the jobsite.
The work you’re doing that you never actually priced for.

The Designer’s Edge gives you the systems, strategies, templates, and support to manage the construction side of your projects without reinventing the process every time.

And when something comes up on a real project? You have 12 months inside The Studio to bring your questions, get feedback, and work through it with support.

Enrollment closes Monday, October 5 at midnight ET.

If you’re ready to stop winging the construction side of your projects, The Designer’s Edge is open now.
