Our Wakehurst clients had just moved into a new townhome. We had renovated their last one, and this one was a great opportunity, but the layout was not working for how they live. The house did not get bigger. The plan got better.

Here is what changed:

We knocked out a wall
We moved the entry to their bedroom to a different location
We redid the back entrance from the garage and gave them a proper mudroom
They gained a large, well organized closet, which matters for clients who like to shop as much as I do ;)
The laundry is organized now, and that big empty back hallway that did nothing is gone
The kitchen is night and day. A huge island where the grandkids gather while grandmother cooks, plenty of room to lay out food when they entertain, and overflow seating right next to their large dining table
Same home. Every bit of space finally doing its job.

How your email finds me...

Usually with both hands full, in the middle of a table covered in rugs, fabrics, and three good options for a client who deserves the right one.

This is what designing for our clients actually looks like most days. It is not the reveal, and it is not the finished photograph. It is the hours in between. Holding a weave up to the light. Comparing two patterns that look identical until you have to live with them. Ruling out the beautiful thing that will not survive a Lake Norman summer of wet feet, grandchildren, and a very loved dog, so we can choose the beautiful thing that will.

On any given morning, this table might be holding pieces of five different homes at once. A living room in Mooresville finding its foundation. A primary suite where the palette finally came together. A kitchen being planned down to how the morning sun will land on it. Every sample here has a family attached to it, and every decision gets made as carefully as if it were g
oing into my own home.

Behind every finished room we share, there were a hundred small moments like this one. Questions weighed, textures argued with kindly, and more than a few samples carried from window to window until the light told us the truth. That quiet work is what a finished home is really made of.

So when an email lands in my inbox, it is answered from right here, mid project, mid thought, sleeves pushed up, a client’s home on my mind. That is not a distraction from the work. That is the work.

Nearly thirty years in, I still believe the best rooms are built slowly, by hand, one honest decision at a time. Thank you for trusting us with yours.
