After months of planning, here's a few shots of what it takes at an installation to 'begin' the process of restoration.
Day one
Starting out by placing about 200 plants, preparing to plant with a rented auger. Had some trouble and ended up doing everything by hand.
Digging in the river flood plain of the Skagit proved to be slow going.
Day two
We mixed native, very very compacted, zero drainage soil with soil conditioner and 3-way garden mix while watering in the new plants as we go.
Greg masterfully put in the raised beds and the trellis (after Zach and Lisa retrieved it full Mad Max style).
Wrapped up the work day with a dip in the river 🥶
Day three
Planting and planting and moving soil!
Staking and protecting plants with blue tubes - were in elk territory here! 🫎
Stay tuned for a few more follow up visits this fall to get things settled in.
Special thanks to Greg Greg Meyer for expertise and muscle on this one, Zach for digging a million little holes (okay like a hundred) in the worst soil ever. And Marc the homeowner for learning and helping every step along the way!
