Coppes Napanee

Coppes Napanee Making what matters since 1876. We build custom cabinetry with material honesty and precise engineering. Kennedy and Elvis Presley.

Coppes Napanee is the oldest continuously-operating cabinet maker in the United States. Founded in 1876, in Nappanee, IN, as a planing mill, the company became famous for manufacturing dozens of models of “Hoosier Cabinets” at the turn of the century. The founders, Frank and John Coppes, chose the name Coppes Napanee with just
one "p," because federal laws at the time banned the use of
trademarking city or community names in corporate titles. Coppes Napanee continued to evolve with the contemporary home over the years and, in the 1950’s, began designing the built-in kitchens we know today. These kitchens were purchased by the likes of Frank Sinatra, John F. The company still offers the well-built construction and standards of lifetime quality in its cabinetry products and provides expert restoration services for the Hoosier Cabinets that put them on the map a century ago.

The knowledgeable and wonderful people at ELC will be hosting a Night at the Museum featuring our history for those who are interested!

Coppes Napanee is celebrating 150 years in 2026. To honor their legacy, the ELC Heritage Collection is excited to present Night at the Museum: The Coppes Legacy. During the show you will learn more about the oldest cabinet factory in Nappanee and the family that started it. During the tour, guides will lead visitors on an interactive flashlight adventure through the museum, with live actors portraying the lives of Nappanee citizens from the past.

The event is free. Reservations open October 5. Reserve your tour time online at www.nappaneelibrary.org, or call or visit the library at 574-773-7919 to secure your spot.

It's the first week of autumn. We're thankful. For c***r on the stove, apples in the bowl, and a kitchen built to gather around all season long.

Some of the best work in a Coppes kitchen is the work you never see. This pantry door swings on a harmon-style hinge, set so the seam runs true with the surrounding cabinetry.

From the Coppes Archive.
This was an advertisement shoot for the Cameo Door; we believe it's from the late 1970's. The details still hold up. Notice the refrigerator with a matching panel front, the reeded detail on the door face, and a cooktop set directly into the island.
