Just a few thoughts as we move into a change of seasons, how the rhythms of nature and Feng Shui have always been connected for me, both personally and through my work. 🌿
In Feng Shui, each season is connected to an element: spring is wood, summer is fire, autumn is metal, winter is water and earth supports us during the seasons transitions.
As summer’s fiery yang energy begins to soften, autumn invites us to slow down, gather what has grown, and gently let go of what we no longer need.
I’m noticing that shift in my own garden, the plants release their bounty with the slightest tug.
Our homes can do the same, by reflecting the season we’re in and supporting how we want to feel within it.
As autumn arrives, take a breath. Look around. What might you be ready to release, with gratitude, to make a little more space for what’s next?
There is still plenty to savor, gather, and be grateful for before we let go completely. 🍂

We all thought we’d have more time.
Yesterday, we laid Tina to rest, wearing color, as she requested. Of course, I wore the dress that represented the color palette we developed together.

Sometimes, a color palette begins with something as simple as a screen-printed dishtowel and a handmade teacup. That’s how it began with my friend and client, Tina.

She was inspired by shapes, especially arches. She loved mixing textures, wicker, linen, woods, leather and especially she loved antiques and fabrics with vintage prints.
She challenged me as a designer, pushed me to
color outside the lines, write a thoughtful, unhurried email and text and to always have my lip gloss ready, even if it was an early morning site meeting. She had charisma 😊. Together, we created a home that felt deeply like her and the love for her husband, family and friends.

We weren’t quite finished yet. We thought we had more time. Last night, I felt myself beginning my goodbyes to summer, and saying goodbye to my friend Tina.

Today, I am here on my yoga mat, beginning again. Breathing in and exhaling. Loosening my grip and letting go. Beginning again, in awe of the potential ahead, while gently returning to the present moment.

I’m grateful we had the time we did. And grateful for the beauty we created together. 🤍

Every summer I find myself drawn to the feeling of expansiveness. 🌿 The trees unfurl, the gardens fill in, and the light stretches the day just a little longer. We open the doors to the early morning light and linger outside after dinner, and our homes seem to expand beyond their walls.
I love this season for the gentle reminder that home is as much about how we experience a place as it is about the place itself.
