After much heartbreak, I need to share that All Around Your House is now officially closed - for good.

This is not how our story was supposed to end.

AAYH was a running, successful small business that my husband and I built together with an enormous amount of work, hope, sacrifice, and love. It was part of the life we created here and part of the future we believed we had ahead of us.

Then, on September 29, my husband died suddenly.

Along with losing the love of my life, I am now also losing the life we built together. Because of my immigration circumstances following his death, I am required to leave the United States within 60 days after his death and dismantle our life here. That means closing a viable business that was still operating successfully - not because it failed, not because I wanted to walk away from it, but because I wasn't given a realistic way to remain here and continue it. Actually no way at all.

There is something profoundly cruel about having to close the doors of a business we worked so hard to build while, at the same time, grieving the person I built it with.

To everyone who trusted AAYH, supported us, worked with us, recommended us, and helped this company become what it became: thank you.

I wish more than anything that this announcement did not have to exist.

But AAYH’s story ends here.

Not because the dream failed.

Because the future we were building was taken from us.

It is with the heaviest heart that I have to tell you that TJ, my husband and the love of my life, passed away yesterday.
Many of you knew TJ because he worked in your homes, talked with you, laughed with you, solved problems for you, or simply because you followed us and our journey with All Around Your House.
But TJ was so much more than the man many of you knew through our business. He was a husband, a dad, a brother, a son-in-law and a brother-in-law. He was deeply loved by his family, and he loved his family just as deeply.
Since yesterday, I have received so many messages from people who knew him, worked with him, trusted him and cared about him. Knowing how loved, valued and respected my husband was gives me some comfort in a moment where almost nothing does.
I honestly don't know what life is supposed to look like now. We have been together for almost 30 years, and there was never a version of my future that did not have him in it.
Please understand that I may not be able to answer messages or calls right now. I see them, and I am grateful for every single one, but at the moment I am simply trying to get through the hours and understand that this is real.
Thank you to every person who loved my husband, who supported us, trusted us, welcomed us into your homes and was part of our journey.
It means more to me right now than I can put into words.

I was helping a client declutter her house, and we had one of those moments you just can’t make up.

She owns a LOT of stuff, and while we were sorting through everything, we found this book called “Clutter Control.”

I held it up, looked at her, and without missing a beat she said:

“See Janine - at least I tried.”

We started laughing so hard we were crying.

If your book about controlling clutter gets lost in the clutter, that’s a level of irony you just HAVE to respect.

The poor book never stood a chance.
It came in with hopes, dreams, ambitions… and vanished for 12 years😅

But moments like this are exactly why I love what I do.
Yes, decluttering can feel overwhelming - but being able to laugh about it makes the whole process so much easier.

And to be fair…
she did try.

Sometimes size actually does matter.

Especially when the ceiling is high enough to make a regular ladder look like a suggestion.

For jobs like this, we don’t improvise, stretch, lean, or say “I can reach it.”

We bring the right equipment.

Because confidence is great.
Gravity is still undefeated.

Big ceiling. Big setup. Safe job.

That’s the plan.

Here’s one of the easiest ways to make cleaning harder than it needs to be:

Getting everything wet too soon.

Before you reach for your sprays, wet cloths or mop, remove the dry dirt first -dust, hair, pet hair, crumbs and loose debris.

Dust first. Vacuum first. Then clean wet.

Why? Because the moment dry dirt gets wet, it starts to stick and smear. Dust turns into grime, hair clings to surfaces, and suddenly you’re wiping the same area over and over instead of simply removing the dirt first.

A bathroom vanity covered in hair? Vacuum or wipe it dry before spraying it down.

A dusty floor? Vacuum first, mop second.

It sounds simple, but the order makes a huge difference.

Dry first. Wet second. Less mess, less work.

Your house has issues?

We’ve seen worse. 😎

The mystery stains.
The DIY repairs.
The “it’s been like that since we bought the house.”
The room nobody wants to talk about.
The "our youngest left for College three years ago" room.

No judgment. No drama.
We take care of it.

Good cleaning products are only half the equation. The right tools make cleaning faster, more effective - and more hygienic.

You don’t need a closet full of gadgets either. A few good basics will take you a very long way:

- Quality microfiber cloths that can be machine-washed and hygienically laundered again and again

- A dedicated glass microfiber cloth for mirrors and windows - less lint, fewer paper towels and usually a much nicer finish

- A good double-sided non-scratch sponge, like a Scrub Mommy, for jobs that need a little more scrubbing power

- A spin mop and bucket with removable, washable mop heads

- An extendable duster for high surfaces, light fixtures and, of course, ceiling fans

- A good vacuum with attachments for corners, edges, baseboards and all those places the regular floor head can’t reach

- A small detail brush for tight spaces, tracks, around fixtures and those annoying little corners

- And a toilet brush. You would be surprised how many homes don’t have one. And yes, we have questions. 😂

Just like with cleaning products, the tool needs to match the surface and the job. A great scrubber in the right place can save you time - on the wrong surface, it can leave permanent scratches.

The goal isn’t more tools. It’s a small set of good, reusable tools and knowing how to use them properly.

Wallpaper can completely transform a room - add character, create a statement, or give a space that finished, elevated look.

But before you fall in love with a pattern, there are a few things to consider.

Your wall matters.
Wallpaper needs a properly prepared, smooth, clean and dry surface. If your walls are textured, that texture may need to be removed or skim-coated first. Otherwise, it can show through the wallpaper and may also affect how evenly the paper adheres.

The room matters, too.
Not every wallpaper is suitable for every space. Bathrooms, for example, come with higher humidity, so the wallpaper and adhesive need to be appropriate for that environment — and good ventilation matters.

Patterns change the math.
With patterned wallpaper, we can’t simply calculate the square footage of the wall and order accordingly. Pattern repeats and pattern matching require very precise cuts, and depending on the design, they can create considerably more waste. That means you may need more rolls than the wall area alone would suggest.

And one more tip: when ordering multiple rolls, make sure they come from the SAME dye lot/batch whenever possible. Small color variations between production runs can become very noticeable once they’re hanging side by side.

Wallpaper is an amazing way to give a room personality and make it feel truly special - but proper planning and preparation are what make the finished result look seamless.

With more than 20 years of experience in wallpaper installation, we know that the difference is always in the details.

When you clean an entire home, don’t start with the easy rooms.

I personally like to start with the master bathroom, followed by the other bathrooms and the kitchen. These are usually the areas that need the most detailing, the most attention - and often the most time.

There’s another advantage: many products used in bathrooms and kitchens need time to work.

For example, if I treat a glass shower door for hard-water buildup, I apply the product first and let it sit for the recommended dwell time. While it’s doing its job, I can clean the vanity, mirrors, fixtures or another part of the bathroom.

By the time I come back to the shower, the product has done part of the work for me.

Start with the most demanding rooms, use dwell time wisely - and once the bathrooms and kitchen are done, the hardest part is already behind you.

Of course, you could also use that dwell time to scroll through a few Reels or make yourself a really good sandwich. We’re not judging. 😉

What a difference a day made.

Well… technically, not even a day. But you get the idea.

We started by removing the old carpet and replacing it with Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring (Traffic Master, Finish Alberta Spruce) then installed new quarter rounds in white to finish everything properly.

There was also a drywall crack underneath the window that needed attention. We repaired the crack, matched the existing orange peel texture, and repainted the affected repair area only. The rest of the room did not need paint, so we didn’t paint it. We’re big fans of fixing what actually needs fixing.

LVP was also a great choice for these homeowners, especially with a dog in the house. It’s easy to clean, low-maintenance, durable, and still gives a room a polished, finished look. There’s a reason it has become such a popular flooring choice.

A much fresher room, without turning it into a bigger project than it needed to be.
