We love how New York sounds. The honest part is that most people who live here do too.

The way we see it, nobody wants a quiet city. They want to keep the neighborhood they chose and still get a good night’s sleep in it. That’s the part we help with. We’re a family-owned soundproof window company, working in NYC since 1992, and what we install is meant to give New Yorkers the best of both: the city outside, and a calmer bedroom inside.

We only work on windows, so noise from plumbing, elevators, hallways or shared walls is something we can’t fix. Outside noise coming in through the glass is where we can help.

This van leaves for a different block every morning.

Sometimes it is a family in Brooklyn that has been sleeping with the elevated train outside their window for three years. Sometimes it is an office in Midtown where every meeting sounds like it is happening on the street. There is a particular kind of noise that comes with a Park Avenue address.

It is not bad noise. It is just relentless. The kind that starts before the city decides it is morning and keeps going long after you have decided it is night.

Prewar buildings on streets like that were built for a different era. A quieter one. And the windows that came with them were never meant to handle what is happening outside them today.

Inviting a crew into your home is an act of trust most people do not take lightly.

Here’s something we’ve learned from 33 years of working in New York homes: the most useful thing we can do is tell you what soundproof windows won’t fix.

If the noise is coming from the street through your windows, that’s our lane. If it’s the plumbing, the elevator, the hallway or the neighbor on the other side of the wall, new windows won’t change it, and we’d rather say so up front.

Plenty of people are living with noise they’ve never traced to its source. If one of them is in your life, tag them. Working out where it’s coming from is the first step.
