Watching Terminator 2 today certainly hits differently than it did in 1991. Sarah Connor was locked in a psychiatric hospital because she kept warning people that AI will eventually become self-aware, build its own machines, and threaten humanity.

Everyone thinks she’s crazy. But the audience knows she’s trying to warn them about what’s coming. She wasn't trying to stop all AI research, she was just trying to stop Cyberdyne Systems from developing the technology that would eventually create Skynet.

Today, as AI becomes embedded in nearly every aspect of our lives, Sarah Connor seems less like a conspiracy theorist and more like someone asking questions society wasn’t ready to confront.

The real issue has never been just the technology, it’s the wisdom... or lack of it... behind how we develop and deploy it.

We’re building increasingly powerful systems within a society driven by competition, profit, and incentives that don’t always reward caution or long-term thinking. When our technological capabilities advance faster than our collective wisdom, things can get out of control quickly.

We’ve been seeing the warning signs for decades. The question is whether we’ll learn from them before fiction becomes reality.
