Vicenza Sisal, part of my wallpaper collection, available at Scalamandré.

With its tactile quality and understated elegance, Vicenza Sisal brings depth and texture to a wall, creating a considered backdrop for interiors where materials, furnishings and decorative details work in harmony.

Designed to complement a range of interiors, it offers a subtle way to introduce character and visual interest while allowing the surrounding elements of a room to take centre stage.

The Philip Gorrivan wallpaper collection is available exclusively through Scalamandré.

Of all the fairs and exhibitions explored during my time back in London, Frieze Masters was the show that stood out to me.

There is something particularly compelling about the dialogue between art, history and craftsmanship. Seeing works from different periods brought together offers a reminder that great design is not defined by a single era or aesthetic, but by the enduring qualities of proportion, material, detail and character.

These are the same qualities I look for when sourcing art and objects for interiors. A carefully chosen piece can bring depth to a room, create a point of interest and establish a connection between different periods and styles.

A few highlights from Frieze Masters, with more discoveries to share as the London tour continues.

I was back in London for a week of discovering art, design and exceptional objects at and London.

These visits are an invaluable part of the creative process, offering fresh perspectives, unexpected discoveries and the opportunity to uncover pieces with character, history and a sense of individuality. From contemporary art to collectible design and decorative objects, each discovery informs the way I approach interiors and helps me source distinctive pieces for my clients and their projects.

A few highlights from the first part of the tour, with plenty more to discover as the week continues.

More to come.

Pattern is one of the most powerful ways to tell a room’s story. That is the thinking behind this entire collection for Scalamandré, drawn from places I have travelled, architecture I have studied, and motifs that have stayed with me over the years, some classical, some organic, some completely abstract.

London Plane is one of my favorites from the group. I took the expressive, almost unpredictable grain of wood and pushed it somewhere a straight veneer never goes: moody in the deeper colorways, unexpectedly glamorous in the lighter ones, with a finish evocative of Dupioni silk. It is printed in five colors on a sisal grass cloth base, so the weave adds a texture you feel before you even register the pattern.

I wanted this collection to feel collected rather than prescribed, familiar but slightly unexpected, the kind of pattern you half remember from somewhere else. London Plane does exactly that, and it is one of the easiest ways to bring real atmosphere into a room without saying too much.

Available through Scalamandré | Luxury Fabrics & Wallcoverings Scalamandré. Reach out for details on colorways and availability.

Primary bedroom, Washington, Connecticut: the room where this whole project exhales.

The most memorable interiors are never about the designer, they’re about the people who live within them. This recently completed home reflects clients shaped by travel and a discerning eye for art, and nowhere is that clearer than here.

A graduated plaster ceiling, pale grey deepening to charcoal at the beam line, sets the tone before you reach the bed. A brass ring pendant floats above it like sculpture rather than fixture. Behind the headboard, a hand painted landscape mural does the work most people expect from art.

As I wrote in Authentic Interiors, the best rooms tell stories. This one tells its quietly.

Thinking about a primary suite of your own? I’d love to hear what you’re working on.

Maximalism isn’t about excess; it’s about intentional layering. In our Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach project, every piece, pattern, and texture is chosen to create depth, character, and personality.

The key is balance: mixing bold colors, statement furniture, and rich textures while maintaining a sense of harmony. When done thoughtfully, maximalism transforms a space into an experience: dynamic, inviting, and unapologetically personal.

It is often the smallest details that leave the most lasting impression.

On the porch, glassware, pitchers and seasonal flowers come together in a palette of rich purple, my favorite color, creating an inviting backdrop for time spent with family and friends.

There is something particularly special about these quieter moments of preparation: a collection of beautiful objects, flowers gathered from the garden and thoughtful touches that make guests feel welcome before the first glass is poured.

Because creating a memorable gathering is not always about a perfectly set table. Sometimes, it is simply about the details that make people want to linger a little longer.

I picked up these 1950s wicker bullheads over many years of scouring the Paris flea markets. I’ve always loved their eccentricity: the unexpected material, the sculptural quality, and their wonderful, almost surreal nod to Picasso. Collected slowly over time, they’re exactly the kind of rare finds that give a room personality and a story.

Last summer, I visited the extraordinary Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, and found myself captivated by a place where architecture, collection, garden and landscape come together with an almost intoxicating effect.

Created by Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild during the Belle Époque, the rose-colored villa is an exuberant interpretation of Italian Renaissance architecture, set high above the Mediterranean.

Inside, room after room reveals the extraordinary eye of a passionate collector: Sèvres and Vincennes porcelain, Gobelins tapestries, Savonnerie carpets, 18th-century furniture, works by Fragonard and Boucher, Tiepolo ceilings, and treasures gathered from across Europe and Asia.

It is wonderfully layered, deeply personal and unapologetically beautiful.

But then you step outside.

The gardens may be the greatest seduction of all. Nine distinct landscapes unfold across the peninsula, from French formal gardens and Florentine influences to a Spanish garden, Japanese garden, exotic plantings, roses and Provençal landscapes, each revealing glimpses of the Mediterranean beyond.
Béatrice conceived the great French garden almost like the deck of a ship sailing toward the sea.

Every turn offers another composition, another texture, another view.

What a feast for the eyes and the imagination, and a beautiful reminder of how powerfully a house and its gardens can tell a story together.
