🥦 A little cold weather isn’t going to scare your broccoli! 😂

Worried about those freezing temperatures coming for your garden? Cool-season crops like broccoli, cabbage, collards, and more can handle chilly weather just fine. In fact, a little frost can actually make those greens taste even sweeter!

Somewhere along the way, “greens are better after a frost” became common garden wisdom around here. We’re not arguing with it!

🥦 Fall and winter are the best times to grow brocolli here in the south and if your broccoli has ever ended up looking like this... YOU'RE NOT ALONE!

You might want to take a look around your plants (especially underneath your leaves) though because I am sure you will find the culprits! The most common are Cabbage Worms & Loopers, Cutworms, or Flea Beetles.

Try using Take Down, Neem Oil or Diatomaceous Earth! All work for these pests without harming beneficial insects.

🌱✨ Garden Spotlight of the Week - Charlie & Edie!

This week we’re heading out to Tarkington Prairie, Texas, Zone 9a, to spotlight Charlie and Edie’s incredible garden! After more than 10 years of gardening, they say this has been one of their best seasons yet, and they’re giving a lot of credit to the Hossinator varieties they added to their garden this year.

Their garden is no small operation either! They grow most of their plants in 10-gallon grow bags, with about 240 bags across two plots, along with four 30 x 35-foot in-ground plots. Their harvests include Hossinator jalapeños, pickling cucumbers, tomatoes, and bell peppers, and Charlie had some pretty strong words for those Hossinator jalapeños: “Good grief, those things are prolific, vigorous and HUGE!!”

We love seeing gardeners take the principles they’ve learned from Hoss and put them to work in their own gardens. Charlie and Edie, thank you for sharing your garden and for being part of the Hoss community!
