Scorpio / Skorpion
A gorgeous Russian pink beefsteak! Skorpion, often listed in English as Scorpio, is a Russian variety producing large, meaty pink to raspberry-pink beefsteaks.
Fruits are generally flattened to slightly ribbed and can easily reach a pound or more under good growing conditions. Inside you’ll find thick, meaty flesh with relatively few seeds and that wonderful rich, sweet flavor that makes it so special.
Plants are vigorous, regular leaf and indeterminate, continuing to produce these big beautiful slicers throughout the season. A great variety for anyone who loves big, old-fashioned pink tomatoes with plenty of flavor.

Avalanche 🍅

Avalanche is my third resurrection from the tomato breeding work of Dr. Victor Lambeth at the University of Missouri, following Mosage and Mozark.

Avalanche was developed at the University of Missouri from the cross Mozark Ă— Glamour and is documented in the historical record by 1963. Originally produced as an F1 hybrid, it was bred as a productive tomato well suited to Midwestern growing conditions.

Avalanche is described as an indeterminate with good foliage cover and very prolific production, producing large, uniform ripening red tomatoes. It was particularly noted for its tolerance to both radial and concentric cracking, along with resistance to Fusarium wilt and gray leaf spot. Historical records list it as adapted throughout the Midwest, East and South.

Eventually Avalanche disappeared from mainstream commercial seed availability, becoming another nearly lost piece of Missouri tomato history.

There is something pretty amazing about growing these old Missouri varieties again and helping put them back into gardeners hands.

Breeder: Dr. Victor Lambeth / University of Missouri
Parentage: Mozark Ă— Glamour
Historically documented: 1963
Original type: F1 hybrid
Growth: Indeterminate
Fruit: Large, uniform red
Maturity: Approximately 70 days
Noted traits: Very prolific, good foliage cover, crack tolerant, Fusarium wilt and gray leaf spot resistance

I have 3 brand new releases this year from Steve Whiteaker of Double Helix Farms. I can’t say how special I feel for being part of this grow out project with a few close friends to keep Steve’s breeding lines alive.

Chandelier- An insanely productive heart shape pink cherry. Large, long trusses of pink, delicious heart shaped cherry fruits that have an amazing flavor. Indeterminate, trusses that load up so much you can’t keep up with even picking them, early, heat tolerance, thicker walled but juicy and flavorful fruits. I stacked these up for 3+ months and by the time I hit the bottom they were as fresh and firm as the day they were picked! I can’t gush enough about how amazing this one is!

Short Circuit- Short plant, 3-4 feet tall, regular leaf. I’ll say semi indeterminate, productive and keep going. Produces cute pink heart shaped fruits with lightning streaks and stripes all throughout the skin. Beautiful and highly productive. The little lighting strikes and the short aspect of the plant inspired the name!

That’s crazy- It’s a medium sized fruit on indeterminate plants. They are gwr with hues of yellow and orange depending on how ripe the fruit is. Medium fruits with great, semi tart flavor! If you want a basket with some really wild colors, this is your one!

The Baltimore Tomato Family: Greater Baltimore, Indiana Baltimore and Early Baltimore 🍅

Greater Baltimore (1905) began this family after being selected from Livingston’s Stone tomato. It became an important market and canning variety, valued for its dependable production, meaty fruit and rich red color. Over time, it also became the foundation for several related tomatoes.

Indiana Baltimore (1927) was developed from Greater Baltimore and selected for better performance in Indiana and other Midwestern growing conditions. It became especially useful for the canning industry while still making a wonderful all-purpose garden tomato.

Then came Early Baltimore (1933), developed from Indiana Baltimore to bring those same reliable qualities to harvest sooner. It was especially valuable for growers working with shorter seasons who still wanted a productive, meaty red tomato.

There’s something special about growing all three and seeing how one historic tomato led to another. More than a century later, we can still grow these different generations and preserve a small piece of the breeding history that helped shape American gardens and farms. Seeds for all 3 of these are nearly extinct in today’s gardens. ❤️

Sandburg 🍅

Sandburg is a beautiful tomato from the late Millard Murdock, a North Carolina tomato breeder who left behind some really special varieties. Sandburg came from a natural outcross of Lillian’s Yellow, and it’s one of those tomatoes that makes you wonder how it ever stayed under the radar.

The large, flattened fruits are heavily ribbed and ripen to a gorgeous red-orange with golden coloring. Inside, they’re absolutely beautiful with golden flesh streaked with pink. They’re juicy, meaty and have a sweet, fruity old-fashioned tomato flavor.

Indeterminate • Potato Leaf • Open Pollinated • Large Beefsteak • 85 Days
