Caroline and I spent last Thursday making paper chains. We both commented on how much we love them. They always take me back to one particular Christmas when I made paper chains with my Aunt Vicki. I couldn’t have been more than 6 or 7 years old.

We hung them from the banister. We hung them from the chandelier. Everything about it felt magical.

I doubt there are any pictures to document that Christmas. Certainly no social media posts. All I have are the pictures in my mind of that one Christmas spent making paper chains with my aunt.

And somehow, those are the memories that stay with us.

I find myself craving that kind of Christmas again. The slow-down, simple kind. The kind where we make things with our hands, spend time with the people we love, and find magic in the simplest of things.

Last week, I had it all planned out what this week would look like. We would start resetting the store for Christmas Saturday through Monday, and Tuesday would be window day.

But I couldn’t sleep last night. There were heavy hearts weighing on my mind.

So this morning, I decided to put Christmas windows on hold for the week and simply display The Cross. ✝️

Our everlasting reminder of the hope we have in Jesus.

Sometimes, we don’t know what to do or what to say. We bake the casseroles, send the Venmos to help, and do what we can to love on those who are hurting. And when the words don’t come and we don’t know what else to do, we can look to The Cross and pray.

Because even in the heaviest moments, our hope remains in Him. ♥️

Last night, I sat down with a couple of friends who are also fellow small business owners, and I was reminded of two things. ❤️

#1 We are rooting for one another—and for YOU, too! We believe our community is better when we support each other. ♥️

#2 Community is vital to small businesses. We need one another. We need people who believe in shopping local, showing up, spreading the word, and choosing to invest in the place we all call HOME!

Let’s keep showing up for one another. Let’s shop local, encourage one another, and work together to make our community a special place where we can ALL thrive. ❤️
