The Repot Report

A semi-regular dose of good news + Sheelytown updates, straight from us to you.

Fresh Picks

New Arrivals

Craft & Bitch is back! This time, it’s all about painting pots and unwinding with friends.

It’s a self-guided night, so you can let your creativity run wild at your own pace. We’ll have pots and paints ready for you—just bring your favorite drink, some snacks, and your bestie (or come solo and make new friends). Whether you're going for artsy, quirky, or just covering it in polka dots, there's no wrong way to paint a pot.

Farm fresh goodies, right here at Sheelytown! We now offer a rotating selection of salads, fresh greens, hummus, microgreens, and whatever else the LWF Chef creates! Hand grown, picked, and prepared right over in Council Bluffs.

Ask a plant lady

Is my pot too big?

One of the most common issues we see with plants struggling is that they simply have way too much room to grow! Unlike our outdoor flower and herb friends, tropical houseplants like to be snug in their pots. Even if there’s a lot of foliage, the roots are what to worry about. You can keep your plant in the current pot size until you see roots coming out the drainage holes, stunted new growth, or the plant begins pushing itself up out of its pot. If you’re still unsure, bring your plant in for an assessment. We’re happy to help whether it needs a repot or not!

Compost This

stuff to let go of (sales, changes, reflections)

As the US and Nebraska continue to pass hostile legislation against our most vulnerable populations, we want to remind you that Sheelytown is a safe place. We are rooted in anti-racism, anti-homophobia,pro-immigration, pro-woman principals. We are a q***r, woman owned (and operated!) small biz. Sheelytown was created with a people over profit, community first business plan, and over 5 years we’ve stuck steadfast to our values. We hope you always feel at home stepping into our shop or participating in our events!

GREEN FLAGS

community shoutouts + happy news

DENISE POWELL FOR CONGRESS!

Women Who Run founder Denise Powell recently announced she would be running to flip Nebraska’s 2nd congressional district. Denise is an amazing woman, mother, business owner, and a huge leader in our community. In the first 24 hours of announcing her campaign, she broke state records for fundraising and endorsements.

Nebraska needs people like Denise fighting for us in DC, and we’re proud to support her campaign. Vote for women!

Stickers are available in store now! Shirts, tanks, and crewnecks are available @ SheelytownMarket.com. Help us stay sustainable by only printing clothing on demand!

On this day, five years ago, I thought I had already weathered the storms. That I had seen the rain and found growth. I even tattooed on my arm, “without rain, nothing grows.” Just a few hours later, Omaha entered its second night of protest following the murder of George Floyd.

That night, 72nd and Dodge were blocked off—an attempt to prevent another wave of police brutality and tear gas. So the protest moved downtown, into Omaha’s historic Old Market. That’s where James Scurlock was murdered by a white bar owner. After days of public outcry and initial inaction, a grand jury finally indicted him. But on the day he was due to appear in court, he was found dead—claimed to be a su***de.

From my Hanscom Park home, windows open and my three-year-old baby asleep in his toddler bed, I could hear the tear gas canisters. I could hear the screaming.

Five years later, it’s still raining. Just last week, Janidi Ibrahim was murdered by a Douglas County Sheriff’s deputy. His name joins a growing list of lives taken by police who act as judge, jury, and executioner.

We remember him. We remember James Scurlock. We remember Kenneth Jones. We remember Zachary Bearheels.

We won’t stop fighting for accountability.

Love,
Mrs. Sheelytown
