🍂 Give Your Trees the Nutrients They Need This Fall! 🌳

Fall fertilization can benefit Omaha trees that are missing essential nutrients. When properly recommended and applied, it can:

✅ Correct nutrient deficiencies
✅ Support healthy roots and overall growth
✅ Supply nutrients for next spring’s leaves and branches

Timing matters! If fertilizer is needed, a fall application is generally made after leaf drop begins and before the ground freezes.

🌱 Start with your soil. Many established trees—especially those in fertilized lawns—don’t need additional fertilizer. A soil test and tree assessment help determine the right approach.

After a dry stretch, a wet September can make a struggling tree look like it should recover. Yet some trees continue losing foliage or developing dieback even after rainfall returns.

Rain can relieve moisture stress, but it cannot reverse every problem that developed during a dry period. Tree decline in Omaha may continue when root damage, poor drainage, compacted soil, pests, disease, or other underlying issues remain.

🦌🌳 Omaha homeowners: protect your trees before deer damage strikes!

Fall antler rubbing can strip bark from young trees, while hungry deer browse twigs and buds through winter. A little prevention can protect years of growth!

✅ Install a sturdy wire cage. Secure it with stakes and leave enough space to keep deer from reaching the trunk or branches. A cage about 6 feet tall helps protect young trees.

✅ Protect against antler rubs now. Put barriers in place before damage appears—young, thin-barked trees are especially vulnerable.

✅ Use deer repellents as extra protection. Follow the product label and reapply as directed. Repellents alone may not prevent damage, especially when food is scarce.

✅ Check protection regularly. Adjust guards as trees grow, keep wire from rubbing bark, and inspect after storms.

🍂 Protect your trees this fall so they’re ready to grow next spring!

Autumn has become synonymous with “pumpkin spice.” You can find pumpkin spice lattes, breakfast cereal, cookies, candies, and seemingly every other type of pre-packaged food available.
But what exactly is pumpkin spice, botanically speaking?
The flavors most associated with “sweater weather” are actually a blend of spices from tropical plants.
The five most common spices used in recipes for pumpkin pie spice are cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice. All of these spices come from different plants—and different parts of those plants—that have their own unique flavors, aromas, uses and histories.

🍂✂️ FALL TREE PRUNING: WHAT SHOULD YOU TRIM?

As fall colors arrive in Omaha, it’s a great time to assess your trees—but heavy pruning can usually wait!

🌳 Plan major pruning for dormancy. For many shade trees, late winter is an ideal time for structural pruning. The best timing depends on the species and its condition.

⚠️ Address hazards promptly. Broken, hanging, or dead branches deserve attention before winter snow and ice arrive. Have a professional assess large limbs or branches near your home.

🚫 Avoid topping trees. Cutting back the crown severely can create decay and weak future growth.

🍁 Use fall to plan ahead. As leaves drop, crossing branches and structural problems become easier to spot.

Need help deciding what to prune now and what can wait? Tree Services of Omaha can help keep your trees healthy and your property safer.
