We hope everyone has a safe and successful hunt for youth r***e season. In the event that things don't work out, we are offering free recoveries during youth r***e season this year. Such recoveries are based on our availability and will be predominantly for Rogers county properties. A free recovery outside of Rogers county will be considered on a case by case basis.

Deer archery season opens tomorrow in Oklahoma. Have you considered these harvest management strategies? Which do you use?

White-Tailed Deer Harvest Management
Different hunting strategies control deer numbers & age structure.

Management Strategies:
1. Traditional- all bucks available for harvest, doe harvest uncommon
2. Quality- take 3.5-4.5 year old bucks, harvest does to maintain population near carrying capacity (most common)
3. Trophy- take 5.5-6.5 year old bucks, harvest more does to keep population below carrying capacity

Doe vs Buck Harvest Considerations:
DOE
- Based on forage availability
- Number harvested is more important than doe age
- Doe harvest determines population growth rate

BUCK
- Based on hunter objectives
- Age of buck at harvest very important
- Buck harvest does not determine population growth rate

General harvest guidelines for areas with 30+ inches of annual rainfall:
- Harvest 1 doe/80 acres to maintain population
- Harvest 1 doe/40 acres to decrease population
- Harvest 1 doe/120 acres to increase population
