We spoke to Joan Salom, Deputy General Manager of Nautipaints, about the recent coatings refit of Captain Glenn Shephard's Jeanneau Sun Odyssey DS, Avalon and what makes coatings refit last. Here are his three main takeaways:

1️⃣ The invisible work decides everything.

Salt and rugosity tests, film thickness and hardness checks, fairing and sanding. "Without a proper foundation, the finish is compromised even before it's applied."

2️⃣ Antifouling protects the vessel; topcoat protects the look.

Aesthetics heavily drive the topcoat decision, whereas antifouling focuses on protecting the hull's integrity, making technical factors the primary driver.

3️⃣ Proof, not promises.

Independent surveys measuring DOI, gloss and orange peel against contract standards, and a full quality report before launch.

Check out the shine on this 24-year-old Awlcraft paint job on Jeff Abell’s 46 foot Williams. The shine on that Jade Mist green looks like she was just painted yesterday!
