It's easy to assume nothing happens in your garden once winter arrives. But beneath the surface, Mother Nature is still hard at work.
Here in Western New York, our soil goes through plenty of freezing, thawing, moisture changes, and temperature swings throughout the colder months.
Adding compost to your garden in the fall gives that organic matter time to settle in before spring planting begins. And while the garden may look quiet above ground, changes are still happening in the soil below.
That's one of the benefits of getting a little garden prep done before winter. When those first warm spring days arrive, you'll already have a head start.
Are you someone who preps the garden in the fall, or do you save it all for spring? Let us know in the comments!
