I do wish Bidens alba would be declared an invasive, noxious w**d. It’s EVERYWHERE. The butterflies love it, and it’s edible, so I suppose it has a few redeeming qualities. But honestly, I’m tired of Spanish needles acting like they own the place. There are so many other beautiful native wildflowers I’d rather see growing instead of this botanical trespasser taking over every available inch. Surely I’m allowed to have a few botanical grievances… right?! 😂🤦‍♀️

One of the fascinating things about native plants is the complex relationships they have with the life around them.

Maryland senna feeds caterpillars, but the relationship doesn’t stop there. The plant also produces nectar from specialized glands that attract ants and other beneficial insects. Some of these visitors help defend the plant by preying on the very insects that might otherwise cause it harm.

A little reminder that nature is full of connections we’re only beginning to appreciate. Native plants aren’t just beautiful. They’re part of an entire living community.

A little happy news! Beginning October 16th, White Squirrel Nursery will be open on Fridays.

You can now stop in on Fridays from 12-noon to 5 pm. We hope you’ll come by, browse awhile, and discover what’s new around the shop.

We always love seeing familiar faces and meeting new friends. We hope to see you soon!

We’ve been working a little magic behind the scenes at White Squirrel.

Corners are changing, old pieces are finding new places, and the shop is beginning to feel a little different every time you wander through. You may not even recognize some of it the next time you come in.

That’s one of our favorite things about an old shop. There’s always something waiting to be discovered. Something beautiful, something curious, something with a story, or maybe that one treasure you had no intention of looking for until it found you.

Come wander awhile. There’s a lot to see, and we’re not finished yet.
