If your garden has been giving to you all summer, fall is the time to give back. While you're digging into fall planting, make sure you're taking time to replenish the soil with some extra organic matter, and top dress it with mulch to keep the goodness where it can build those strong roots. also come with beneficial soil organisms called mycorrhizae already in their soil mix, that will grow and spread in your soil to help boost their growth for years to come.

๐Ÿฅถโ„๏ธ FREEZE WARNING: PARKER & SURROUNDING AREAS โ€” THURSDAY NIGHT INTO FRIDAY MORNING! โ„๏ธ๐Ÿฅถ

Protect tender plants before temperatures drop:

๐ŸŒผ Annuals & containers: Move baskets and pots indoors or into the garage. Cover tender plants with frost cloth or lightweight sheets, securing the edges. Remove covers the next morning.

๐ŸŒฟ Tender or newly planted perennials: Cover frost-sensitive plants and water newly planted perennials if the soil is dry and not frozen. Leave healthy stems and seed heads for winter habitat.

๐ŸŒณ New trees and shrubs: Water deeply if the soil is dry and temperatures are above freezing. Add 2โ€“3 inches of mulch around the root zone, keeping it away from trunks. Hardy Colorado trees and shrubs typically donโ€™t need covering.

๐ŸŒน Roses: Established, cold-hardy roses usually need no special protection. Enjoy the blooms and save major pruning for spring.

Fall planting isnโ€™t over! Plant hardy trees, shrubs, perennials, and spring bulbs while the soil is workable.

๐ŸŒป PUT DOWN THOSE PRUNERS! โœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿ

As tempting as it is to tidy up the garden this fall, donโ€™t be too quick to deadhead your flowers!

Those fading blooms and seed heads still have an important job to do. ๐Ÿ’›

๐Ÿ Late-season bees and other pollinators may still be searching for nectar and pollen.
๐Ÿฆ Birds love the seeds from plants like coneflowers, sunflowers and black-eyed Susans.
๐Ÿฆ‹ Hollow stems and plant debris can provide winter shelter for beneficial insects.
โ„๏ธ And leaving some plants standing adds beautiful texture and interest to your winter garden.

A perfectly cleaned-up garden isnโ€™t always the healthiest garden. Consider leaving those seed heads and stems standing through winter, then do your cleanup in the spring when temperatures warm and our tiny garden friends begin waking up.

A little โ€œmessyโ€ can be a beautiful thing for nature. ๐ŸŒป๐Ÿ๐Ÿฆ‹๐Ÿฆ
