Look up! 🌕 October's Full Hunter’s Moon reaches peak illumination on Monday, October 26, at 12:12 A.M. EDT—but the best time to watch it rise will be tonight, on Sunday evening, October 25. Find an open location with an unobstructed view toward the eastern horizon and look for the Moon around sunset.

The Hunter’s Moon is the Full Moon that follows the Harvest Moon, traditionally associated with hunting and preparing meat for winter. Following the Harvest Moon, fields are typically cleared, leaves have fallen, and animals are easier to spot in open landscapes. At the same time, game such as deer and other wildlife have fattened up over the summer and early fall, making this an ideal time for hunting 🌕

In some years, the October Full Moon is the Moon closest to the autumn equinox. When this happens, the October Moon is called the Harvest Moon and the September Full Moon is referred to as the Corn Moon 🌕

🎃 Happy National Pumpkin Day! 🎃

For centuries, winter squash and pumpkin seeds have been valued not only for their protein content and healthy blend of oils, but also for their medicinal value.

Winter squash is a top source of Vitamin A due to its carotenoid richness, and is also a good source of Vitamin C, fiber, several of the B complex vitamins, potassium, and many other essential minerals. While some carotenoids convert to Vitamin A in the body, others may play a role in cancer prevention, blood sugar control, and immune function.

Daylight Saving Time ends in two weeks, on Sunday, November 1. The time changes at 2:00 a.m., when most people are asleep. Consider changing your clocks before bed on Halloween night, Saturday, October 31, to avoid confusion in the morning! 🎃

Of course, not all states abide by Daylight Saving Time. Most of the states do, but Hawaii and most of Arizona do not. One notable exception in Arizona is the Navajo Nation—they do observe Daylight Saving Time. The U.S. territories of American Samoa, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands also do not observe Daylight Saving Time.

Common perception is that Daylight Saving Time was created to help farmers gain more time in the fields. However, that lore isn't true. The United States started using Daylight Saving Time in 1918 during World War I to help reduce the use of electricity.
