Pines that made it through a rough storm season can still be at risk, because stressed trees attract bark beetles.
Southern pine beetles and Ips engraver beetles go after pines weakened by wind damage, root disturbance, lightning, or drought. On Panhandle properties, the first clues are often small, popcorn-like lumps of resin on the bark, fine reddish dust at the base, and needles fading from green to yellow or red.
Once beetles take hold, an infested pine usually declines fast, and the insects can move on to healthy pines nearby within a few weeks. Removing affected trees promptly helps protect the rest of the stand.
Our ISA-certified tree specialists know the difference between routine storm stress and an active infestation, and our crews safely remove affected pines, from single yard trees to larger wooded lots.
