Plant care has never been easier with self-watering pots! As we celebrate Begonias this month, these are perfect plants for self-watering pots because your plant will never fully dry out.

Not all plants will be successful in self-watering pots. For example, epiphytes such as Hoya and Monstera will not work in self-watering pots because they need to dry out in between waterings. However, there are many plants that will thrive in self-watering pots such as African Violets, Syngoniums, Prayer Plants, and Episcias.

Bold Begonias! 🌺

Each October we celebrate the diversity of Begonias!! As our Plant of the Month, we will spend October tracking down a wide variety of Begonias to show off the diversity of this genus.

Begonias prefer bright, indirect light but can tolerate low-light conditions. Begonias like to dry out half-way in between waterings. Begonias are an excellent addition to any collection because they don’t need any direct sun.

It’s been a while since we did an update on Lily Bean’s paludarium! The plants have taken off! There is always some trial and error when it comes to getting plants established in a bioactive enclosure. We had some initial causalities, but now the plant are taking over! We pull out plants every other weekend and they are even escaping and growing out of the top of the tank!

🪴 What plants like to be potted in terracotta pots?

This month all terracotta pots are 20% off!!

But what plants benefit from being planted in terracotta? Plants that like to fully dry out between waterings benefit from the porous nature of terracotta because it allows air and moisture to pass through the walls.

Terracotta pots can help prevent overwatering and improve root health!

However, not all plants want to dry out between waterings so opting for a glazed pot will prevent these plants from drying out too fast. If you use terracotta for more thirsty plants, you will need to increase the frequency of watering.

Unlike other lizards that are carnivorous so you don’t need to use non-toxic plants when building tanks, it is very important to have all pet-safe plants for these omnivores.

Additionally, plants in Beardie enclosures need to be heat tolerant. We have assembled a wide variety of both heat tolerant 🔥 and non-toxic plants this month!
